Well worth the walk up the stairs and the hike to the top to see the Megalithic Cairns. They are supposed to be older than New Grange or Stonehenge. Outstanding views of the area, especially on a fine day.

Loughcrew Cairns access insulates it a bit from being overrun. For many, it's modestly inconvenient both in the sense of away from traditional tourist routes as well as immediate access as in uphill climb. Nearby there are somewhat similar preservations much more accessible and surrounded...More

It was a very rainy day, but we braved the weather, signed out the key from the coffee shop, and saw a spectacular site. There is a tour bus that take people up there as well, but they also have to sign out a key....More

We visited on a rainy, windy, day, and it was still fabulous. It's definitely worth the trudge up the hill--I'm out of shape and it took me 25 minutes, including two stops to catch my breath. At the top I could see vague shapes of...More

We went here with 4 children. It is about a 15 / 20 minute walk uphill to the site from the entrance. The site has 1 well preserved Cairn and several others which have been damaged over time. The views are stunning and well worth...More

Depending on your fitness and mobility levels it may take you 15/25 minutes to get to the top, as the marked route across the fields is steep enough, but gradual (see my photos). But it is worthwhile, as the views from the summit are beautiful,...More

The walk up the hill to the Cairns is a lovely challenge but so worth it when you get to see the uninterrupted views of 18 counties of Ireland. To be able to access a 5000 year old cairn and step into history is a...More
