The place is quite extraordinary! The coast line is craggy, the jutting rocks and landscape is spectacular, the surf is wild and a walk along the beach is a must. Lots of parking and walking trails up the cliffs for a view that's hard to...More

Just 40 mins from CBD you'll find the beach where "The Piano" film was shot. Still a hauntingly beautiful site - esp on a windy day

This gigantic black beach in Waitakere Ranges Regional Park was the most impressive thing about Auckland and, actually, of the the whole Northern Island. It is less than an hour's drive from Auckland and the beach is gigantic and black. Be careful, this is one...More

The area has tons of hiking - I recommend taking the Zion Ridge track and then loop back via the beach. Lots of space, so you can easily find your own spot to relax.

Soft dark sand. Refreshing not too cold sea with good waves to play around in. Wonderful cliffs to walk along. Great day out.

Immense, beautiful black sand beach with scattered shells and lively surf. Would have been happy to spend several hours there. Short walk to a gorgeous waterfall. I loved listening to the water and taking in the natural scenery. This is a very special place!

Is the best place near Auckland. You must have a car. The road is not the best, but the beach is the unique one in the world. Dont hesitate about the road and the advertished of danger.
