The centre is great and very informative about the local area. The views from the platforms are stunning in all directions. We stayed overnight in the car park in our self contained camper van and were the only ones there, the views in the evening of downtown Auckland were great. It is $8 per person to stay overnight, there are... More

As we only had a short time in the Auckland area, we decided to visit the Waitakere Ranges and were told to go to the Arataki Visitor Centre for information. The building contained a small screening room which showed the story of the area, inhabitants, history, etc., very helpful staff, information on the wildlife, brochures and an outside area with... Went to the Visitor Centre the other day and had the most wonderful conversation with the park ranger working. She gave my boyfriend and I the best advice about the walks to do and to stay away from in the Waitakere Ranges. The information centre itself is very lovely with lots of great exhibits and a sweet little gift shop... More

This purpose built centre, high up in the Waitakeres is definitely worth a visit. Beautiful building with native sculptures, viewing decks overlooking the bush, dams and harbour. Helpful staff along side interesting displays, art and small gift shop. Coffee and ice cream stall outside.

We were visiting Auckland from the US and made our way to the Arataki Visitor Center. This is a beautifully maintained visitor center and is free. There is a nice 12 minute film about the area and there are several viewing areas of the landscape. If you like to hike you have several choices of hikes.

We stopped here on our way to the west coastline. The facility has nice views from their porches. Inside is a history of the area and a few small displays of animals and insects. They have an area geared to kids and of course a place to purchase a gift. Restrooms are downstairs and were clean.
