Gotta canyon has a small amount of elevation so for people who don't regularly hike it is a good one to start on. It is still a decent amount of Km's if you choose to keep going into the canyon after the water fall. There are ancient rock wall paintings on the left hand side of the canyon wall as... More

My wife and I wanted a short hike before lunch and this was it. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, but it sure was when we left! The creek bed was pretty much dry so no wet feet. Beautiful views along the way.

This was a nice short hike close to town (Canmore). The bit past the quarry plant was a bit off putting but very nice once past that. It was interesting hiking through the canyon with a cool little waterfall. I'm sure the waterfall would have been more substantial in a different season but we still enjoyed it. We stopped at... We did this on our last day in the area, it had been raining heavily all morning and we wanted to make the most of our last afternoon. I have to say we were disappointed. Maybe we have been spoilt this past week with gorgeous hikes ( Peyto lake, bow falls, grassi lakes etc) but this just didn't seem that... More

It was our first time at Grotto Canyon. It is an interesting hike where you walked on rocks for 80% of the hike. Easy hike, we started hiking at 1140am and return to the car at 210pm. We did take our time to hike so for seasoned hikers, you will probably take a much shorter time. We come to an... More

We hiked Grotto Canyon on our last day in the Canmore area. Though we never did find the pictographs, the hike/scenery was wonderful. I loved the section further in where the canyon floor was simply covered in cairns. It felt kind of eerie and magical. We had done some strenuous hikes earlier in the week so this was a perfect... It's a great hike though. A little odd to walk past the big, noisy processing plant but once you get up in the grotto and valley, it's pretty peaceful and serene. It's an easy hike, not challenging. Apparently it goes on and on...we turned around about half way as the terrain was becoming more rough. Good little hike though.

The walk starts out from the Grotto Canyon parking area next to the lake. I included a photo of the picnic tables next to the lake, a great place to have lunch before or after. The walk starts out on a rocky trail and proceeds past a MagOx mill (at least there is a sign telling you a bit about... More

This was a fun and easy hike. The trail to the canyon goes past a industrial site (not very picturesque) and it feels like you may have gone the wrong way for a while. The canyon itself is an easy hike (at least in summer) and the canyon walls kept it cool. The rocky bed of the canyon might be... More

Low elevation hike available up a creek bed. we hiked between steep canyon walls, came upon a waterfall and many inukshuks left by previous hikers. It was a beautiful hike and relatively easy. not much elevation.
