This was such a great stop in just two hours, in just two hours I learned so much. It was a great place to bring my dad. He was a commercial fisherman from the US that docked in Yarmouth from time to time while they were sword fishing it was an opportunity for him to tell his stories and share with his family the guides at the museum were incredibly knowledgeable And were eager to learn from my dad as well. It was a wonderful day very reasonable admission too.

A wonderful museum! We learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. There’s a lot of detail and it’s an immersive experience. The woman who checked us in was very nice and knowledgeable and even gave us recommendations to local attractions!

Loved this museum. Totally worth a visit. It was originally a family museum and was donated to the town of Yarmouth at some point. Lots to see. Lots to learn. The family cleverly depicted all parts of the fishing industry in uniquely compact form. You have to go there to see how truly clever and interesting it is. The whole family will enjoy this. Our grand children thought it was the greatest place ever - you can go through the vessels and into small rooms and do a paper quiz finding all sorts of discreet objects related to the fishery. The adults loved it too.

Something to do to kill the time if you need to spend a day in Yarmouth. I wouldn't recommend going far to visit this. Quite well done, but pretty small. We were the only visitors at the time we visited for about 45 minutes on a Saturday morning. Actually a bit of information for not just the kids but the adults as well, if like us, you know next to nothing about the life of fishermen. The girl at reception (seemed to be the only staff on duty) was very nice indeed. Was the daughter and granddaughter of Yarmouth fisherman, and brought an authenticity to the narration that was refreshing.

I honestly didn't plan on stopping at this little museum, but we were there and the price was right, so we went in. As it turns out it was quite fun, and very interesting. I would highly recommend it for young kids (they will love climbing on the boat), but even my teen and I really enjoyed it. It's just really cool how they have set the whole thing up. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.

This cleverly done recreation of an actual wharf has taken the real thing and moved it indoors and scaled it down for the purpose of sharing a past time with present people. All the tools and documents are authentic. By making this exhibit hands-on it has great appeal for curious people of all ages. There is nothing you cannot touch and explore - hold the tools, poke around in desk drawers - the depth of the exhibit is surprising and delightful. A replica of a coastal freighter built on site offers up further opportunities to poke around. Staff were knowledgable and helpful during our visit.

This is a fascinating little museum. W. Laurence Sweeney kept EVERYTHING and his fishery was dismantled and moved into the museum. The buildings have been scaled down to fit, but everything is very authentic and VERY hands on. You can pick up and touch just about everything in there so it is really interesting for smaller kids as well as older kids and adults. It is so much fun to be able to flip the pages of a catalog from the 1950s and see the old gleem toothpaste in the head on the boat. A truly wonderful museum with great staff. Sarah and the other lady were full of information and willing to answer any questions. The admissions fee is only $3 and the museum is well worth a visit..

This museum is a gem. My husband grew up in a fishing town in N.L. and wanted to see this museum. It goes way past what other fishing museums have to show. I was equally fascinated by the display.
The Sweeney family have replicated the entire fishing process down to scale to fit into the building. A real delight.

Best fisheries museum I have seen around the Atlantic. The collection is complete and impecably displayed. A lot of care and attention to detail has gone into the place. Be warned: No air conditioning. On a hot day I would avoid the place, it is uncomfortably hot. Otherwise amazing place you can get lost and spend hours.
