A great trip down the inlet to Bamfield, stopping off at a few places enroute to deliver vital goods to people who live in fairly remote places. We spotted numerous bald eagles, a couple of humpback whales, a bear, blue heron and countless birds. The skipper gave excellent sighting alerts and commentary as and when it was safe for him... Enjoyed a relaxing day on the water. The MV Frances Barkley left the dock at the exact departure time. The weather forecast was questionable, but it turned out to be good. Sailing along the Alberni Inlet provides for beautiful scenery, and sometimes amazing wildlife viewing. Two months a year in fall and winter Lady Rose Marine Services provides a 50%... More

Spent the day aboard the MV Francis Barkley when everyone else was hunkering down in fear of a storm that was supposed to hit the Island on Oct 15th. We had checked in with the Staff before we left Victoria and they assured us that they would be sailing that day but if we felt unsure that we could cancel... More

Wow what a great day! Who knew that delivering mail could be so much fun. The scenery and wildlife was amazing. It was nice to get breakfast on the boat. Coffee was about the only weak point. The Captain was knowledgeable and the crew competent. We were a varied group but all of us enjoyed the day. It was worth... More

If you have time this is a great day out down the water with lots of wildlife viewing opportunities. The boat has good facilities with plenty of seats and cafe and toilets.Although when we went in September it was only about a third full so plenty of room even if it was busier it would still definitely be worth doing. It was a fine day on this vessel which took me round trip from Port Alberni to Bamberton. During the turn around to deliver and pick up cargo there was plenty of time to take local walk about tours on shore. I did the wharf walk stopping to admire the informative signage, which some of was just vandalized, while my... More

We took the trip to Ucluelet, a summer only trip. The scenery along the Alberni Canal is beautiful then surpassed by the multitude of islands at the canal opening to the Pacific Ocean Alternative is the daily trips to Bamfield. One this trip we sighted bear, humpback whales and a deer. Food service is available. Check it out. Go!

My wife and I went on a Sunday trip on the MV Frances Barkley. The trip took around 10 hours and we saw parts of the island that you could only see from this ship, weaving through the islands, stopping to drop freight and passengers off, spotting wales and bears. Do yourself and favor and set a day aside for... More

A trip on the MV Frances Barkley has been on my bucket list for years, and our recent trips (2) on the Barkley did not disappoint. We rode from Port Alberni to Sechart Lodge, stayed four nights, then rode from the lodge to Ucluelet and back, returning to Port Alberni. The scenery is great, the crew is friendly and the... More
