This is a small, quiet park, few minutes away from the boat jetty. We went on the Sunday of Victoria Day weekend. The park was not crowded, and we had the place mostly to ourselves. A good place for a nice walk.

Nice little beach. Great to have a dock to swim to and jump off. Safe place with a cute splash pad.
Nicely groomed park all around. Some construction underway nearby while we were there.

My family has a gorgeous experience at the Joel Stone Heritage Park. It was extremely pleasant to walk around the park and absorb the natural surroundings. Would certainly very highly recommend visiting same to any traveler, especially in the evening during summer.

A local waterfront park at the end of Water Street, on the shores of the St. Lawrence River.
This park has parking, a bike rack, washrooms, picnic shelter, picnic tables, benches, large mowed grass park area with paved walking paths, some tree shade, splash pad, play structure. There is a small urban sand beach, roped shallow swim area, deep water swim area marked at boating channel, deep water dock with ladders and benches, raft with ladder. Dogs must be leashed in the park, cleaned up after and are not allowed on the beach.
A short walk to Arthur Child Museum, Gananoque Boat tours, restaurants. A medium walk to downtown shopping, restaurants.

You could be a person seeking a quiet relaxing view of islands, a person wanting to do kayaking, boating, transporting to an island, parents with small children or a history buff or someone who just wants to cool off- in all cases you would be pleased with this park. I'd suggest doing a quick trip to the museum just before and that way you'll know about the history, geology, and ecology of the area. It just makes it easier to imagine the uneasiness that the residents would have felt being so close to the US during Joel Stone's time (ie the 1812 war).

This looked like a wonderful place to visit with children. I could visualize fireworks over the water on July 1st. Unfortunately the day we were there much of the park was flooded. The boat museum nearby was wonderful and the stone monument an interesting read. Unfortunately for 2 years in a row there has been condo construction right next to the park which is an eyesore.

Love walking along the waterfront trail and through this park in the fresh, sunny winter sunshine! The deck chairs are still at the beach! (must be waiting for a polar bear dip!) and you can see the lighthouse so beautiful against the snow!

This park is right at the water's edge, and with a roped-off swimming area, a splash pad, bike/ walking paths, clean toilet facilities, boat access, and Canadian geese, what more could a child want? Food! (Most people bring their own food, but there are places to buy it further up the street, but I am not sure what or where.) There is free public parking as this end of the park, but not near the boarding area for the tours. Because it is near where the Thousand Island tour boats leave, there is some wave action when these small boats arrive or depart, but people often kayak or canoe here.
A word of caution: children in Scotland are warned to stay away from water where ducks swim to avoid a skin rash not just caused by a wet swim-suit!
The only disadvantage at the moment, June 2017, is the construction noise!!! Condos are being built. No doubt they will be beautiful, but rock being pounded by big machines is deafening! I hope that the permitted hours do not include evenings or weekends. Locals must be disheartened to have this tranquil spot ruined. You can hear the noise on the Main Street.
There is another section to this park honoring Joel Stone who lost his business and property in Connecticut because he wanted to stay British when the American Revolution was hostile to Loyalists, so he emigrated to Canada. A VERY well-tended exhibition garden has been established surrounding a stone memorial on the former site of his Gananoque business. If you walk up the side street where the boat tickets are sold, just across from The Comfort Inn there is a calming flower park, complete with benches, to remember this loyal citizen who valued this town enough to fight to defend the invading British Army. Many perennials are reviving, and annual flowers and vegetables are thriving. A "square-foot garden" is also there to show what can be done in a compact area. Kudos to the gardeners who have beautified this end of town, and even created another park across the intersection by the bridge where a veterans' group have a very colorful display in their honour.

This waterfront park is a short distance from the Thousand Islands boat cruise dock and the boat museum. The side closest to the parking lot is a big grassy public space with cannons and War of 1812 memorial, illustrated plaques on founding father Colonel Joel Stone, bronze diorama of the 1816 garrison settlement, now present day Gananoque, and bandshell or stage.
The splash pad, just beyond the bandshell and right next to the public washrooms, leads to the playground and sandy cove like beach and swim dock. The rest of Joel Stone park sticks out into St. Lawrence River and features shady trees, park benches, picnic tables, red and white wooden (decorative) lighthouse, flagpole and a loop waterfront trail that passes through a gazebo.
We explored this very nice park and posed for photos at the lighthouse, on a giant muskoka chair and at the Welcome to Gananoque sign, just across the splash pad. Too bad we did not bring swimwear, the swim dock here looked really inviting.

Yes, it is dog friendly. Part of why I love it so much is there are lots of memories of walks with my dog Doogie.
