The museum is small, but clean, uncluttered, and generally well laid out. There are some very interesting aspects of the area’s past on display. And although the interpretation is sometimes not as extensive as it might have been, one leaves it knowing a lot more than before they went in. Worth a visit.

Wonderful museum of the local area featuring displays of local flora and fauna on the second floor. Gift shop, washrooms and some exhibits on the main floor. Completely accessible with an Elevator to take you upstairs or choose the grand staircase. No set entrance fee but donations encouraged. Film shown upstairs on the history of Boldt Castle with a generous seating area to relax in. Very worthwhile stop while in the “Gan”!

On the shore of the St. Lawrence River, next to the Gananoque Boat Line docks, is the Arthur Child Heritage Museum. The Heritage Museum is located on the site of the former main railway station of The Thousand Islands Railway, which was destroyed by fire in 1990.

The building’s design is reminiscent of the original islands cottages and fabulous hotels that were built during the Golden Era.

You can take a guided or self-guided tour, and learn about the War of 1812 between Canada and the United States, geography and wildlife of the region and the people of the First Nations.

After your tour, take a short climb up the lookout tower for some magnificent views of St. Lawrence River.

We stopped at the museum after arriving in Gananoque. It's by the marina and cruise boarding area. Very interesting exhibit about the history of the region. They had a very good documentary about Boldt's Castle. If you have children, go to the top floor. There's an interactive game where they can drive a ship.

They've done an outstanding job in presenting the maritime history of the area. Of special note is the 30 minute history of the Boldt Castle. Strongly suggest seeing this video before visiting the Castle as it goes into more detail than the video at the Castle.

It is a donation based museum though they have good stories to read and nice artifacts but very much interesting but one can visit if have some extra time. It wont take more than 60-70 min and all you have to donate just $10 or $20 is enough.
Also, in their gift shop everything is sales tax free.

This small non profit museum is certainly worth a visit. The staff are pleasant, informative and helpful. The first floor was dedicated to Immigration and had exhibits and photos of the many people and cultures who immigrated to the area. The permanent collection is on the second floor . Exhibits here show the formation of the St. Lawrence river, the history of the area, plants, fish and animals, lighthouses and much more. Be sure to visit the gift shop. The items for sale are interesting and the prices are very reasonable.

Very informative museum about the area and the St. Lawrence River and 1000 Islands. Amazing display of tall ships crafted by a local gentleman. Great 30 min video of the history of Boldt Castle. No charge but donations welcome.
