As part of our trip to Radium Hot Springs, we spent a day exploring the area around the town while we did some geocaching. We viewed the Wetlands while visiting the Iron Jack Commemorative Monument. This area is home for a number of bird species, fish, reptiles and amphibians. I learned that this is the source o the Columbia River that provides a habitat for a number of mammals including elk, deer and moose as well as bear, cougar, coyote, and beaver. This area contains the largest wetlands of its kind where conservation efforts include no watercraft traffic to protect this vast biosphere.

Take a few moments to see the length of the valley, it's beautiful. The river below and the mountains surroundings are worth the pull off.

The pullover is right along the highway. It is easy to access. The view is very beautiful of the valley below and mountains all around. Definitely worth and quick stop and a few pictures.

If it's a sunny day, the views here are pretty epic. If you're driving by, it's always worth a stop to take in the views. There's a small little road side pull out (currently under construction in Aug 2019) but people usually stay only about 5 minutes. Great spot to stop and view the mountains from a different angle compared to Banff, etc. If you're with friends or family, it's a great spot for a group pic! It can get socked in with clouds though, so the view is not always guaranteed.

When we stopped to see the Kootenay Valley Viewpoint, we could hardly see anything. There was fog.

I read all the panels and learned a lot.

Interestingly enough, the fog started to disappear.

We saw the mountains in its glory. Truly beautiful!

By the way there had been fires and only a few attractions we could visit. The others were closed.

However, this viewpoint we could truly enjoy this. It is glorious!

Not only is the viewpoint an “oh my” moment, the entire drive from Radium Hot Springs to Banff is spectacular. Right before the viewpoint, we saw a bear cub on the side of the hill.

My wife and I are currently traveling through the West of Canada. We also stayed one night in Radium Hot Spring while traveling from Calgary towards Vancouver. I planned the trip in advance and marked this point in my GPS. There is really a nice view over the Kootenay valley. We were alone, nobody else was there. I guess this is different during the rush season....
