These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

I have been to Butchart Gardens several times now; most recently in February...so sick of being stuck indoors, we took the opportunity of a watery sunny day to stroll round in the chilly air. Butchart Gardens are beautiful at every season of the year, perhaps a little less so in February, but walking round it then assures you that Spring... More

We visit the Butchart Gardens on a sunny afternoon and it was truly enchanting. Everything is beautifully maintained and the colors are impossible to describe. Easy walk through all of the different gardens. Want to go back and see them in the other seasons as every visit will be something different. The gift shop had many nice items and the... More

The Butchart Gardens are an absolute "must see" when in Victoria. This was my second time to the gardens and it was Tulip Time this time, just out of this world and breathtaking. There is something about tulips and these were absolutely stunning! The trees were also in bloom and spring was in the air. We took several pictures but... More

We planned this trip long ago and were quite scared about what we'd find given the unusually bad winter Victoria had...despite the blooms being behind season at the moment, the garden was awe-inspiring and spectacular. If you like flowers or are a gardener you will still be able to appreciate what is to come. The rose garden though not alive... More

My daughter just finished college with a Horticulture Degree so we took a little trip to the Gardens to celebrate. They are truly gorgeous! I loved how even this early in the spring all the beds were planted with multiple varieties of blooming flowers. The fragrance in the air from the hyacinths was stunning. If you aren't into gardens, 3... More

We were so pleased to see so many beautiful flowers , shrubs and trees in bloom so early in the year. The tulips, hyacinth and flowering trees were so amazing. This is a " must see!"

We were looking forward to a return visit and visited on a Friday in late April, as this has been a highlight of a previous trip. Really wanting to see the tulips and spring bulbs. The garden is as well kept and as lovely as always, however it was absolutely heaving, to the point in some areas such as the... More
