Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

Visiting and had to see what the gardens are like in Feb. As always they are well maintained and just waiting for some warm weather to burst into colour.

No photos with my review as there are sufficient already. This is an incredible place to visit. We went in late winter only a few types of flowers were blooming but it was still an incredible day. A totally different perspective. Beautiful grounds and amenities....More

My wife and I have been avid gardeners for 30 years and have seen hundreds of gardens but we were both in awe of these beautiful gardens. If you see or do anything in Victoria make this a "Must Do". We had to leave at...More

We visited Butchart Gardens on a quiet rainy day. Even on such a day the gardens looked absolutely amazing. The misty weather made them look like an enchanted garden from a fairy tale.

Whilst quiet an expensive ticket it is well worth the time and entrance fee. The most beautiful vistas, plantings, features and colours across the site in a surprising variety of landscapes all based around the old quarries and inlet / port used to transport the...More

The Butchard Gardens is beautiful anytime of year! I’ve been there in the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The flowers are beautiful, the views are spectacular. A must see for locals and tourists!

Even in winter the Butchart garden is worth a visit. Broken up into several different gardens it is still a wonderful place to visit. The Japaneese garden remains beautiful in winter and reminds me of the moss gardens in Kyoto. I can imagine the beauty...More

I love visiting the gardens but I think they charge way too much for what they have there. I would rather visit one of the free gardens in Victoria that are almost as spectacular.

I had heard about the Christmas display at Butchart and really wanted to make it a priority to see it on a recent visit to Victoria over New Year's. I'm so glad we did! We arrived early because we weren't sure about crowds, so we...More

This is the second time I went to the Butchart gardens and it was as stunning as the first time around. A pleasure to stroll around for hours and then we had a wonderful high tea service at the restaurant on site

You can do the gardens easily in about 3 hours but be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Go even if it is raining. You won't need an umbrella-the gardens will supply them free of charge.

We took a public bus which allowed us to go and return at times that suited us. There are organised coach trips from Victoria though if you prefer.

Temps should be around 65 to 70 and rain is always a possibility in the PNW.
