Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

Butchart Gardens is beautiful, more so in spring I think, I've been in summer before and didn't like it as much, possibly due to the crowds! It is also a little difficult to get to unless you either have a vehicle or join a tour....More

Always an enjoyable time at the gardens! We go all year round and love to see the change of seasons. No matter what time of year you are visiting, it is great to see what is growing at the gardens!

Daffodils are currently at peak and tulips coming on. Hyacinth flowers were also at their peak. No crowds at this time of year which improves the overall experience.

This is a four season destination. We have visited several times and although the fall and winter is beautiful we prefer the summer. Check to website to see who the entertainment is and try to take in the amazing fireworks.

I've been to Butchart Gardens a number of times at different times of the year and always enjoyed it. Around Christmas they do an amazing 12 Days of Christmas display. In summer the flowers are spectacular and there are music nights and firework nights which...More

Butchart Gardens has an amazing array of plants, shrubs, perennials, annuals and trees. Every section has a theme. Roses and Japanese bamboo to name a few. It's a great walk for an afternoon or a few hours.

Buchart Gardens is open in January, but be mindful it's winter so you will not see blooming roses, etc., however the shrubs and trees are beautiful.
