Our second year at Peak rail for the Santa express and will be back again. A heritage line with bags of warmth and a true heart. Entertaining from the moment we got on the train our grand child loved every minute as did the adults!! Well done Peak rail !

12 of us went on the Santa express on Sunday, 7 adults & 5 children. It's our second time and it was every bit as enjoyable as the first trip. The volunteers are all fantastic, friendly, helpful - just lovely! The entertainers are brilliant with the children, a real family day out. We will most definitely be back.

As part of a day trip to the Peak District, our coach party visited Rowsley to enjoy a steam train ride. Unfortunately, there was no steam train (we were advised by one of the train volunteers that it had been out of action since August 2016), and instead boarded a diesel train. The train was cold, windows very dirty -... More

An enjoyable relaxing three course Sunday Lunch served by smiling friendly young ladies. Time to enjoy the scenery while eating your delicious meal. Will definately visit again.

My wife's not too chuffed with diesels, but with two big ones to secure a trip into Matlock Station, we both enjoyed the experience. Main line grandeur, branch line feeling - to Buxton and beyond one day? Or just be thankful for what we have - Peak Rail.

This is a small heritage line called Peak Rail with about 4 miles of track running from Matlock to Rowsley. Access to the platforms of the 3 x stations is free, so good for photographs. Currently the small steam engine is out of action due to problems with an injector. Therefore diesel loco's are pulling the trains until a part... More

I am local to the area and I do photography, Peak Rail USED to be a picturesque, scenic steam hauled trip from Matlock Riverside to Rowsley south passing through Darley Dale with a longer stop of 5 minutes than the current "intercity" stop of 2 minutes, to allow visitors to explore the extensive sidings full of rolling stock and restoration... Nice to see a bit of history being lovingly preserved, but it's not really that special for the visitor problems meant we had diesel rather than steam and we stopped at a small halt shot of matlock no explanation for either. The journey is very short and very slow with long stops presumably to draw time out.the cafe on Rowsley... More

I came here with my Father- in-Law and Brother-in-Law as a preferred method of travel into Matlock. If you were born in the 50's and used to travel by rail as a child pre-Beeching this is the place to come for a nostalgic day out when staying in the area. Rattling down the track to Matlock is just wonderful, bringing... More
