we stayed a local family in their yurte, I joined the tour from anda guesthouse, the landscape is amazing, so relaxing and beautiful, the yurts are very comfortable for sleeping, the food was ok (I am vegetarian, not so many veggies in Mongolia:), this grassland gives a good impression about Mongolia life style and it is easy to reach from... We came a real long way to see the grassland.Booked a 2 days trip with a local travel agency who seem to have the monopoly in the city. Departure day a 4*4 came to pick us up. A japanese couple have booked the same tour were not on the pick up list, we had to squeeze to get in, the... More

I had two days in hohhot so took a one day tour to the Xilamuren grassland with Choula who was an excellent guide and very reasonable prices for private tours (Chaolu Inner mongolia <nmgtour@hotmail.com>) I include it as it took me ages to find a tour company locally. As you approach the grasslands I agree with previous reviewers it looks... More

We travelled to Xilamuren Grassland with our 2 toddlers at the end of September. We took a private tour and we stayed with a mongolian family in a traditional yurt unlike those modern ones. Our kids had a good time watching sheeps, cows, horses and they just enjoyed running around freely. Such a nice a quiet place for a breather.... More

We were hoping for a more authentic Mongolian grassland experience, but what we got was definitely more Chinese than Mongolian and not as authentic as was advertised. Upon entering the grassland area you will see endless collections of "tent" resorts. Usually one large "tent" or hall structure with a cluster of "tents" for guests to stay in. We were greeted... There is a review below from 2011, that says everything. It is a good experience, my kid loved, we are glad we made it... But it is for only once and I would suggest a very long day leaving early and coming back late night to Hohhot. In case you decide to stay, don't think twice to get the "luxurious"... More

Granted, I guess I didn't go during the best time. Winter in Inner Mongolia was only just over, and the grass was only just beginning to grow, so we'd still see brown patches on the ground. That was all fine though; the vastness of the Xilamuren Grasslands is still some sight to behold. Also, don't expect to see countless herds... More

This is the nearest grassland attraction 2 hours journey from Hohhot by bus, when reaching the grassland you will see lots of modern Mongolian yurts scattered all over the vast grassland catered for tourist. Nowadays many nomads are no longer living in the yurt because there has been a transition of their living, yurt to brick house and raising of cattle to... More
