I first visited the Great Britain soon after it was bought back from the Falkland Islands.
The ship was just a shell then, the job that has been done to restore the ship is incredible.
Would highly recommend a visit.

The ship is incredibly well presented. Lots to see for your money
Nov 2021 • Friends
This is an excellent exhibit. You get quite a lot for your £18 entry.
Firstly the ship itself, a pioneering and game changing ship in terms of an iron hull and propeller driven with a fascinating history.
The ship was raised from the sea bed and has been really excellently recreated inside to show you how it was when in service including cabins, engine, galley etc. You even get to go underneath the ship (it’s in a dry dock) to get the full scale of it.
There are 2 museums included in the price. The dockyard shares the history of the ship, it’s life, travels and passengers. Again really well done.
The second museum is dedicated to the ship designer and builder, the great Isambard Kingdom Brunel, probably Britain’s greatest ever engineer. Really nicely put together too. Overall, a must see in Bristol, it is so much more than just walking around an old ship.

Absolutely Excellent!
Nov 2021
Our visit to SS Great Britain was without doubt the highlight of a short November stay in Bristol. We arrived at 10:00 o'clock I did not leave the place until after 13:30. That's how interesting it was! The kitchen cafe serves a range of breakfast snacks and light lunches and helpfully opens at 9:30 AM, half an hour before the attraction itself. SS Great Britian is a fabulous site to visit. It is incredibly well presented and I imagine the museum directors used film set experts to create the atmosphere they have achieved. Even before you walk into the site there are posters from the 19th century advertising SS Great Britain voyages. We started in the museum, and there was plenty to see there. We learned about the history of the ship, how it spent almost 100 years grounded in the Falkland Islands and how it was successfully returned to Bristol in 1970. Then we went on board the ship itself. We saw the kitchens (and the rats!). We saw the first class berths, the second class berths and even the steerage berths, all fascinatingly presented with mannequins, suitcases and everything else! We saw the area of the ship where horses were stored, and we also saw the replica steam engine which has been placed into the ship (although the actual engine was taken out during its working life!). Then we went below the glass level, which contains a shallow dish of water creating the effect that the ship is actually sitting in water, and we descended into the dry dock itself. Here we could see the extensive damage to the hull and had the opportunity to walk around and capture something of the ingenuity of the ships design and it's rescue 50 years ago. And that wasn't all! We also saw the new Being Brunel exhibition and learned quite a lot about him. I was not too impressed by the audio visual presentation, but the rest of this second museum was also excellent and gave an idea of Brunel’s creations in London and the South West of England. I cannot speak too highly of this museum it would work for children, and it certainly worked for us as mature adults. There was an excellent book and gift shop… in fact everything about this place was excellent. I think it is probably the best attraction I have visited in many years!

I would like to say a huge thank you to 'Russ', who gave an amazing tour and an enlightened and entertaining presentation on the history of this most famous ship.
Additionally, my thanks extends to the whole crew who made the day exceptional. However, another huge thankyou has to be given to the great 'Fabio', this young gentleman and his staff, produced a wonderful buffet for my family and friends, thank you Fabio from the bottom of my heart.
To all the Crew, you are amazing. What you do for us and the history of our county and maritime is awesome.

Wonderful visit with masses to see
Aug 2021
This has to be the best location to look out across the docks. This is one of the unexpected pleasures of a visit here.

The history and stories of this fantastic ship. The engineering is mind blowing and the scene inside and outside the ship is beyond the photos and any pre-planning you may have done.

This is a must do visit for anyone visiting Bristol or if you live in Bristol or nearby. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
