Stopped to see this stone circle after visiting Stonehenge the day before. In a field of cows, nice surrounding countryside. Quite underwhelming but worth a look if in the area.

Located on a working farm with an honesty box on the gate into which you pop a pound. Three ancient stone circles, having signs of an earlier wooden circle beneath possibly older than Stone Henge, amazingly set in the landscape. The Cove is to be...More

Nice stones, topographical study I think revealed wooden stumps underneath it which if true, makes these older than Stonehenge? Believed to be the old gateway to the stones are the stones in the Druids Arms pub, a good local. Pub welcomes doggies but not allowed...More

I am not a Druid. More of a Pantheist than any "organised religeous following". However I find these Stone Circles deeply mystical and moving. Stanton Drew is no exception. I have been on a number of occasions and each time I am filled with peace...More

Stanton Drew was recommended by the customs agent at the Bristol airport. It took a little searching, but the find was rewarding. Visit Stonehenge and Avebury, but come visit this rustic and casual site. We saw another party, but they were leaving as we arrived....More

Our visit was driven by our desire to visit a stone circle off the beaten path, void of tourists, visitor centres and rules. It was wonderful to be able to wander at our leisure and explore the stone circles and the cove. At the entrance...More
