We met our guide, who was dressed as a Roman Soldier, by the town hall, and we're guided round Chester, with Roman history pointed out to us and explained in a way our young daughter could understand. The pace is not frenetic, but it is a lot of walking, so very young children may struggle a little. Genuinely interesting, the... More

We toured Chester, discovering so much of its Roman past, with Pertinax, who may well have been a real true Roman! He brought history alive, not just dressed the part but a fund of knowledge and information, making the town we know well give way to Roman baths, gladiator fights, feasts, orgies and daily life of citizens and slaves. A... More

I planned a trip to Chester during my stay in northern England. I really enjoyed the tour. The authentic reenactment the Roman soldier guide presented was impressive down to the period nails in his shoes. It was a pleasure to learn about the history of Chester. I never would have known of it's Roman origins. Thank you for an interesting,... More

Hilarious centurion and beautiful sights made for a great day out! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I can't recommend this enough for something to do in Chester or anyone looking to find out more about the history of the city

Whenever I'm in town, I can hear the children's voices, before I see them ,there on the Roman tour, the guide dressed as a Roman soldier, dressed just as he would have been , in Roman times,, and behind him , a stream of little children , with delight on there faces , shouting at the top of there voices,... Renowned legionnaire Tiberius was our doughty guide - Tiberius was excellent and v funny. Also v stoical given the temperature during our visit was hovering just above freezing - he must be thinking fondly of his next posting back in the warm climes of the Mediterranean. Combines a tour of this historic city with occasionally saucy anecdotes about Roman life.... More

I took this tour with my son, who wanted to do it. The guide was very knowledgeable and helpful and as my son was the only child on the tour, he was encouraged to join in with demonstrations. The guide was able to point out many things that you would never find or things that are no longer there, giving... More

Tiberius and Marcus took our group of French School children from Cannes on a great walk through the Roman ruins of Chester. Although divided into 2 groups, both were equally happy and found the 2 legionaires excellent. I had to translate for Tiberius and the result was hilarious (great sense of humour), in particular when visiting the latrines. ( a... More

Enjoyed the tour with tiberius who helped us imagine what Chester was like in roman times. Kept our interest and pitched the tour well for a group of mixed ages

I accompanied a visiting group of 19 Chinese pupils aged 8 - 11, and 6 Chinese teachers, none of whom had more than very basic English, so I also had 2 native-speaker Sixth Formers to translate. As it was a chilly day and the children were relatively young, we had an introduction to a soldier's uniform and armour, with demonstrations... More
