About
Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens’ dramatic landscape, combined with large-scale exotic, sub-tropical planting, provides the backdrop to contemplative and inspiring art by internationally renowned artists. A major attraction near Penzance in West Cornwall, Tremenheere can be found in a beautiful sheltered valley, overlooking St Michael’s Mount, with woods and a stream, interwoven with an evolving programme of contemporary artwork. The creations of artists such as James Turrell, David Nash, Richard Long, Tim Shaw and Peter Randall-Page interact with the setting to create site-specific permanent work, which harmonises with the landscape. Within this breath-taking location, Tremenheere hosts its sculpture garden, gallery, shop, nursery and restaurant.

Delicious food and fun sculptures in a perfect setting.
Thought provoking Sculpture park full of fun coupled with delicious food in a perfect setting. Excellent menu and excellent service. We arrived for breakfast at 10am, toured the gardens and couldn’t resist staying for lunch. Recommended.

    Mesmerising Sculptures and Beautiful Views
Stunning gardens which we visited during a short break to Cornwall. We spent about 2 hours here, although if it was a sunnier day we most likely would’ve stayed longer and brought a picnic. Admission was more than other gardens, but it’s such a unique place and is well worth a visit. The cafe closed before we left at around 3.30pm, but we would have stopped for coffee had it been open.

    I loved it
I loved Tremenheere! A friendly welcome at the ticket office where they issue a ticket that allows you to re-enter if you want to take a break in the cafe and then explore some more. They also give you a handy map to help explore and this clearly shows which paths are laid and which are rougher and include steps. It's a fair climb to the top, but there are lots of places to sit if you need a breather. The sculptures are varied and there are some fabulous views of Mounts Bay and St Michael's Mount - great photo opportunities. There is also a lovely quiet reflection space, by the pond The garden setting is beautiful, especially if your preference is for gardens that are not "over manicured" This is definitely a place I will revisit through the seasons There is a cafe, which I will review separately, and a small shop. The shop had interesting things but by the time I had explored and also had coffee the shop had closed (mid afternoon) which was a shame. All in all well worth a visit

Impressive, but unsuitable for those with limited mobility
Very attractive sculpture park on a hillside inland from Longrock (between Penzance and Marazion). Easy enough to get to by car but needs a little thought if you’re relying on the excellent bus service. We caught the #16 bus from Penzance bus station at 10.30 (next at 11.30), with the return at 14.05 giving us just the right amount of time (next at 16.05). Cafe is very smart but doesn’t do lunchtime snacks, only a luncheon menu, so if you only want sandwiches you’ll need to bring your own to eat in the grounds (lots of seats and gazebos towards the upper part of the site). The gardens are definitely NOT suited to anyone with limited mobility (or wheelchairs). There’s a hefty gradient and lots of steps, and in consequence even a number of the paths described as “Step free and easier access paths” turn out to be effective cul-de-sacs. My wife walking with two sticks only managed the woodland walk, which unfortunately was the least interesting part of the site sculpture-wise. I had a quick whizz round most of the site and my lack of prior knowledge meant I looked at the pieces I passed with few preconceptions (meaning I either liked them or I didn’t!), but having since spotted an article* in the American magazine 'Sculpture' I think I’d have benefited had I read it beforehand. [*Trying to be helpful I did include the link, but TA in their infinite wisdom thought it was advertising and blocked it, so if you're interested you'll just have to search yourself for sculpturemagazine + tremenheere ...]
As the gardens at Tremenheere are situated on a steep slope we don't advise wheelchair access. We do have a step-free route marked on our map to try and make it as accessible as we can in the circumstances. We also have a gallery, plant nursery and shop also on site near the restaurant for people to enjoy during their visit and these are all on the level and are accessible.

A surprise find that didn't disappoint
After driving past due to roadwork diversions we looked this garden up on line and decided to visit. We were so glad we did. Just outside of Penzance the gardens have ample parking, allow dogs on leads and have lots to see. There is a cafe which has comfortable outside seating, a shop and a quirky succulent store and plant nursery. You go through the nursery to reach the entrance to the garden. The garden climbs up the slopes of the valley, some of the paths are steep but they are well maintained, with mixed surfaces such as gravel and boardwalk. There are plenty of viewpoints within the park and as the gardens rise you get beautiful views over to St Michael's Mount. The sculptures are varied and interesting. I would allow a good hour and a half to walk around the site, longer if you enjoy the seating areas. There are plenty of these if you find the going hard. Try to make it to the top to experience James Turrell's Tewlwolow Kernow (Skyspace), it is superb, enjoy a quiet moment in this special space. The garden is very well maintained and is well worth a visit. We will return.

    Wonderful!
Fascinating sculptures, gorgeous setting and gardens and a fab succulent shop to boot. Don’t miss the installation created from a Victorian water tank-sublime! Just glorious, from start to finish! Don’t miss it if you’re in the PZ area.

    A stunning oasis
We visited this wonderful place after my husband saw a programme about the sculpture gardens on a Rick Stein programme. I didn’t really have any expectations but was absolutely stunned by this glorious and extensive oasis. Wherever you looked there were sublime vistas encompassing an extraordinary array of planting with sculptural curios nesting within. The site was so much bigger than I imagined and wandering up through the trees to emerge on the lofty slopes where we were at the same height as the trees gave view to St Michael’s Mount in the misty distance. A particular highlight was the Skyspace which I can only begin to describe - an underground light chamber of peace, tranquility and purity. It was simply spectacular and a gentle amble of 2 hours wasn’t nearly long enough to explore the glory in all its entirely. We didn’t eat here but the menu at the cafe looked completely delicious and there are picnic tables available if you bring your own (always a big thumbs up if you are on the budget). One of the loveliest places I have had the fortune of visiting and we shall certainly be back.
We are so glad you enjoyed your visit to Tremenheere. Visitors to the gardens are very welcome to bring along a picnic and enjoy the many views down to St Michael's Mount

    A lovely peaceful day out
We visited these beautiful gardens on our 30th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. We spent hours wandering around looking at all the sculptures not wanting to miss anything. Beautiful planting, little ponds some with seating areas and magical views across to St Michael’s Mount. Well worth a visit
Thank you for your lovely review and we are so glad you enjoyed your visit to Tremenheere :)

    Perfect location for intimate wedding
We got married in the treehouse pagoda at Tremenheere. The experience was first class. We loved every second of it and would love to come back again to explore the gardens properly. The view of St Michael's Mount is a lovely element. The pagoda is beautiful in it's simplicity and the staff were helpful but not imposing.

    A lovely day
We went as a family with a two year old, there are some steep hills in the gardens it's self but we carried our son up them. We had a lovely day and ate lunch at the garden kitchen. Delicious food and great service. Treated ourselves to some new plants at the nursery as well. Didn't get round to look at the art gallery but will do another time as we would love to visit again.

We visited during a storm, drawn there by the description of the garden mentioning that it was sheltered.
We had a fantastic walk around the 22 acres, enjoying the misty views towards St Michael’s Mount, the evocative sculptures and lush planting.
The massive swaying acropolis (not its real title) was performing to the audience due to Storm Alex - an unnerving, mesmerising sight.
I would highly recommend this garden for anyone but be warned that there are a number of unfenced decks over water which were generally signposted.

It is more than two years since we last visited, and the core garden is now maturing. We were stunned by its beauty and diversity. The extension is also starting to taking shape. I appreciate that modern sculpture is not everybody's cup of tea, but the garden alone is worth double the modest entrance fee. Some interesting and thought provoking sculptures have been and an exciting looking addition is in the process of installation. Add to that the superb restaurant at the entrance, and the always interesting gallery, then this is a superb day out. The garden is now not just one of the great gardens of Cornwall, but is now one of the greatest in England.

I went to the gardens with two friends and we spent about 90 minutes walking around looking at the sculptures, installations, plants and trees. It is a magical place and even though it was very busy, we managed to find ourselves alone at several points. What I remember most is the white domed chamber that you can look at the sky through, with wonderful light effects when the sun emerged; and the camera obscura which is great fun. There is also a very secluded, very green area with a stream.
We enjoyed our visit very much and it is a fantastic place to take photographs.
What would I change? It would be great if seniors got a discount ! this is not a cheap visit at £9.
The cafe - obviously very popular and as it is outside the entrance, it is obvious that people visit purely for the cafe, meaning there is no hope of paying visitors getting a seat when they exit. There is also a kiosk but no seating which is a shame.
The trees are wonderful, I did dig around around on the website and find a list of the species, I was so excited to see some of them like Norfolk Island Pine. I appreciate that labelling is a mammoth task, but some of these wonderful specimens could be labelled?
Or the tree guide given out on request, or perhaps at a small charge, on entry?

As for the sculptures, I found many pretentious and irritating, but some like the temple and the minotaur are striking and in keeping.

We were on holiday locally and looking for somewhere to go that wasn’t the beach, but followed recent social distancing guidance. The sculpture gardens were just the place. We spent 3 hours there with young children, completing the paper trail offered but also exploring all the different sculptures. It was worth visiting for the views across to St Michael’s Mount alone, but were also impressed by the facilities on offer. The Skyscape was everyone’s favourite!

We enjoyed the beautiful tropical gardens and the fantastic views. We went on a very hot afternoon, 28 degrees! The gardens are open until 5.30pm and after our walk around the garden at 4.30pm we looked forward to a cold drink and ice cream in the cafe, only to find it closed at 3pm! The entrance fee for a family of 5 is expensive for what is basically a nice walk. The whole experience would have been much better if refreshments were available on an extremely hot day! I really think the cafe should be open until 5pm.

This is a garden with a difference - having the sculptures really makes it a real landscape- art experience. We loved this garden. Only gripe: anticipating a tea with some indulgent cake at the end of our garden meanderings (all part of the experience), we were so disappointed that the cafe had closed, and it was only mid afternoon ... madness!

Visited a few years ago and enjoyed, on return visit there are now more sculptures which give added interest.
We visited on a stormy day so some areas were excluded, we were immediately offered a 50% discount on admission which was more than fair.
Even at full price it would still have been good value.
Some good views and offers a change from the standard garden offering.

The gardens were recommended by our AirBNB host, and I’m so glad she did.
The gardens are amazing, truly exceeding our expectations. We had beautiful autumnal weather, and as we arrived after lunch, it was extremely quiet.
The statues and gardens are so wonderfully planted, a true oasis in Cornwall.
Highly recommend. The cafe is lovely too.

Fabulous sculptures dotted around the gardens and woodland, with a great map to guide you round the exhibits. Some stunning views towards St Michael's Mount too. The only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was that the café was fully booked and the take away hut shut....it was a gorgeous sunny day and I couldn't even get a drink or take out coffee to sit out in the sun with!

Tremenheere gardens is a treat if you enjoy nature and art. Fantastic sub-tropical planted gardens, woodland walk and meadows. An amazing view of St Michael's mount is also an attraction. Small Nursery where you can buy plants, restaurant and gallery - though on this visit (during COVID restrictions) they all closed early and were not available beyond 3pm
