About
Morrab Gardens is a public park, with luxuriant sub-tropical planting established over many years, in the centre of Penzance. The quality of a public space gives a strong impression of an area. It is part of what gives a town its identity, and local residents a sense of civic pride. By the late nineteenth century, Penzance had become a popular seaside resort and required a park for visitors’ recreation. To this end, Penzance Corporation acquired Morrab House, along with its grounds, in 1888 for £3,120. The villa was leased by Penzance Private Library and the gardens were designed and set out to the scheme of paths and borders which can be seen to this day. When the Gardens were established, in the 1880s, unlike today there were no nurseries selling exotic plants, the original planting was the result of gifts from local estates.

Having visited Penzance several times in the past we were pleasantly surprised to find the gardens. Not sure how we'd missed them in the past. Well cared for and a peaceful place to sit to while away some time.Plenty of seats.

These are lovely public gardens in Penzance, adjacent to the Morrab Library, free to visit and extremely well maintained. There are plenty of benches where you can sit and rest awhile and a little fountain at the top end, which is lovely to sit around on the seats provided and eat your lunch. It is lovely to stroll around the pleasant path which weaves around the gardens. There is also a fenced garden with a pond lower down the gardens from the fountain, below the house.
There is an extensive collection of sub-tropical plants that have been accumulated over many years.
The cast iron bandstand was built in 1905 with money donated by a local coal merchant and it was extensively renovated in 2004. The Boer War Memorial statue was erected in 1904 to commemorate those who gave their lives in the South African campaign and was fully restored in 2002.
Definitely worth a visit!

We visited these lovely gardens again because we wanted somewhere nice to eat our lunch and they are extremely well maintained, so we found an empty bench to sit on and enjoyed our lunch while taking in the scenery.
The gardens contain abundance of sub-tropical plants that have been accumulated over the years, a cast iron bandstand and, of course, the Boer War Memorial statue.
Definitely worth a visit!

Delightfully tranquil sub-tropical gardens which are perfect to relax in, and enjoy passing wildlife, after looking around the equally recommended Penlee Gallery and Museum.

A real treat to find such a beautiful oasis in the middle of Penzance. Make time to take a wander as the gardens are delightful. Well planned, well stocked and someone takes a lot of trouble to keep them looking that good.

You could almost envisage yourself being in the riviera somewhere. The planting was extremely good with many tropical and exotic plants to vieww. Again although close to the town and roads it was a little haven of peace.

This is a wonderful place where you can go with children. Subtropical plants and daffodils out in bloom in feb/March. It’s very good for disabled people also. Not far from the seafront, or the town.

Beautiful, tranquil gardens. Pleasant surprise to see so many plants still flowering in mid October, and away from all the hustle and bustle of Penzance sea front. Peaceful oasis.

A drizzly day in mid-December is obviously not the best time to visit any sort of garden, but even so I'd prefer something more visually interesting and without a group of men totally ignoring the ban on drinking alcohol.

Well worth the effort. We walked through on several occasions and even though quite small found something fresh each time.

what are the ticket prices? Are dogs allowed?
Written 11 April 2017
Morrab garden is open to public so there aren't any tickets. I didn't saw any signs indicate that dogs are not allowed. If you have it on the leash and be prepared to clean any "products" there will not be an issue.
