Fantastic escape room! If we’d just had a bit more time …
What a great experience. Tricky but solve able - I’m sure we would have got there if we’d had a bit more time. Milly our game master was great and a fantastic host. Thanks for talking us through the bits that we didn’t get at the end Milly! Would have driven us crazy otherwise 😂

Excellent escape room, a lot of fun
We visited as a family of four (2 older children age 11 and 13), this is in St Ives up a steep hill in the centre. Anthony was great and we were welcomed inside even though we did get there early he still let us in. He was the perfect game host and explained everything to us at the start. We have done escape rooms before so we knew kind of what to expect but this one was a lot of fun. We went in the pirate escape room and all the challenges and puzzles were good, just the right level for the 4 of us and we worked well completing the puzzles together and some individually. We escaped with 13 minutes to go. Thank you to Anthony, we will return again when we are next down in St Ives and will do the prison one.

    A great experience!
We did the treasure of pirate Kernow room as part of a Christmas gift, it was really enjoyable! Lots of good puzzles and Milly was a great host, we unfortunately didn't escape in the 60 minutes but were allowed to finish anyway, 67 minutes overall. Definitely a good level of challenge and if we'd used our brains a bit more we could have got the treasure in time! Will definitely go back.

    A lovely day out!
Me and my wife came to do the Treasure of Pirate Kernow room as part of my birthday celebrations, and I was very surprised by the quality of the room, it really was very good. While we didn't quite escape in time we were given an extra few minutes and managed to escape in 67 as a two person team, we were grateful for being able to finish the room as normal. Milly was a great host and as someone who works in another escape room myself, I could've stayed and traded stories with her for hours, she was very personable and was half the reason the experience was so enjoyable. A great accompaniment to a day out in st ives

    Amazing, amazing, amazing
First time escapees and it was amazing, booked for my sons 15th for him and friends. They loved it, the host was so attentive and fun. She is an asset, she had time and patience. The room was just brilliant and they had a great time with all of the puzzles. Can't wait to go again

    Another great escape room
Escape Time St Ives is always fun and this one did not disappoint. This was our third visit (different rooms each time), and was one of the best. Clever clues, not too easy, not too hard, and certainly enjoyable. Great host who made the room great fun. Will certainly be back next time we are in St Ives.

A must do experience in St Ives
I’ve done quite a few escape rooms around the country and this one is up there with the best. Great experience with the family, polite and friendly hosts, a brilliant time had by us all. Highly recommended. Soo looking forward to the new serial killer themed game THE BUTCHER coming soon.

First Time ever in Escape Rooms
We had never been to an escape rooms venue before. Took my daughter and grandson (8) and experienced the pirate treasure room. Milly introduced us to the game and explained what would happen really well. We struggled for 10 mins then with one or two clues got into how the clues worked.Got into the second room with 10 mins left plus a great 5 min bonus. We didn't make it out but had a fantastic time.We all really enjoyed it and each of us solved clues. Thank you Milly for being so kind and helpful. We had a great time and would come back to try the other Butchers Room !

Amazing experience. If you spend time in St. Ives, in my opinion, escape Time IS THE PLACE TO BE. Milly was amazing, funny and helped us along the way. Definitely coming back.

    Perfectly paced puzzler!
Our hosts were Milly and Frey. They were very welcoming and enthusiastic and explained the rules very clearly. We attempted "The Butcher." The game was very exciting with some innovative and original concepts, and we just managed to escape with 1m 9s remaining!!

Very unsure why this escape room has so many positive reviews; I can only guess these come from people new to escape rooms with particularly low expectations about what can be achieved if this entertainment genre is done right. I give this review having done 20+ escape rooms across the UK, Europe and further afield; if you also have escape room experience, I strongly recommend you should read this review.

We did the Pirate themed room, if you can even call it that, given the poor quality of decorations and props. The nautical paraphernalia has been lazily assembled and is now appearing quite tatty; it seems the room is dimly lit in an attempt to hide this low effort set from you. For reference as to what can be achieved, I have done pirate themed rooms before where you were transported onto a full pirate ship complete with wheel, sails, deck etc and a series of below deck rooms. This wow factor and immersion was entirely missing from this Escape Time experience. Despite the proximity of the St Ives coast, I could not have felt further from the sea in this escape room.

In terms of the puzzles, whilst I cannot go into detail to avoid spoilers, I can say these were also quite disappointing and lazy. The progression is entirely linear, in most cases solving padlock after padlock to open a box with the next puzzle; the escape room genre has moved beyond this style, which a) leaves little for the individual members of a large group to do concurrently and b) turns what could be an exciting discovery of the unknown into a premeditated series of chores. In the few places where the puzzles do go beyond padlocks, the room employs very common and predictable ideas from the escape room genre; there is nothing original or innovative here to get excited about here.

In summary, the decor and puzzle quality of this room might have been borderline acceptable when escape rooms first came to the UK a decade ago but nowadays they should be considered woefully inadequate given how the genre has evolved and the quality/originality of games which are now available elsewhere. For a group spending £80-£100 on an hour's entertainment, this represents very poor value for money and is effectively just a tourist trap for those looking for a rainy day activity. I strongly recommend you consider saving your money by skipping this room and doing a better escape room back home.

Unfortunately on this occasion I didn't get to visit the Prison X game I booked due to horrendous car parking situation in St Ives on the day (2+ hours driving around!). 4 hours before the booking we made the 1st call, no answer and another 15 calls proceeded this to try and switch the booking. 1 voicemail was left and an email sent all before the booking to try and get in touch.

We had a call from a young lady at the time of the booking who was asking where we were, unaware of all attempts that had been made to contact them but she said we could reply on the online chat and re-book FOC.

On speaking to them the following day their head office were less than helpful and were adament we had to pay a re-booking fee of £25 and would not book us in on available slots that he said had been booked already. A partial refund was offered which was swiftly refused as to me it was not about the money but the principal.

Although they're a small company I've been to their sites 3 times now (St Ives & Burton) but I'll never return to any other location of theirs.

Thank you for your review of which we are sorry to hear of your disappointment. Whilst we understand your position with regards to parking as our games are live events and as per our terms and conditions should a booking be cancelled and need rescheduling we do have a fee of up to £25 depending upon how much notice was given as ultimately we could have resold this slot and still have to pay staffing costs. In your case the fee would have been £25 due to less than 24 hours notice. Our phone lines have been very busy and we always aim to call people back if they cannot get through and a message left. Our head office did offer a reduced rescheduling fee as a gesture of goodwill and when this was not accepted they even offered to refund you for the booking once the reduced rescheduling fee had been deducted to cover costs the company had already occurred. Whilst we can’t get it right every time we do try our best in working with our customers in difficult situations. The offer still stands for you to rebook with the rebooking fee being paid or alternatively the refund minus the costs we have incurred.

Not the best escape room experience - very tired room and some items falling apart, the clues were not logical compared to other escape experiences, and whilst they say the chocolate experience suited to kids, it really isn’t. You could easily do a much better kid friendly escape the room experience. I wouldn’t mind if it didn’t cost £25 each but that comes to a lot for everyone going - and compared to other local attractions for that price, it is shocking to be charging that much for not a great hour. Very disappointing. And I say this having done other escape room experiences.

Thank you for your review. it is a shame we couldn't reach the 5 stars we always aim to achieve on every occasion. We do not advertise the chocolate factory game for kids as all our escape room experiences have a recommended age of 8+ due to the difficulty and complexity of the room. Since your visit we have infact refreshed this game and put a new one in place. We are always looking for ways to potentially improve our games and would welcome further feedback sent to info@escapetime.co.uk on your experience should you have the time and we look forward to hopefully seeing you again to try another one of our escape rooms.

I had a tremendous time and the escape room with my fam. Considering I am not the smartest (aka I am stupid) we managed to escape. The man who was called Dave (I think) was making me laugh so much I nearly cried. This therefore made the whole experience and time we were there extremely fun and engaging. Would recommend doing and worth the money.

We had a fantastic hour of fun tackling the Prison X escape room, which was one of the best escape rooms we have tried. The session was hosted by Milly who was very welcoming, bubbly and helpful. The escape room had a variety of challenges that really tested us all. It was a great experience and well worth a visit.

Played Prison X at Escape Time with the amazing Sam as host. Two of us had done around 10 escape rooms and Two of us had never taken part before. Sam explained clearly though videos and vocals about the room and made us feel comfortable on arrival.
The room is has challenging aspects, one of which we had never seen before in an escape room which made it very challenging! Sam gave us prompts when necessary which we needed at points. I would probably rate this room 3/5 for difficulty.
We escaped just in time!
Thanks Sam for a wonderful escape room and for being a great host!

We visited as a team of two during our holiday. As veterans of escape rooms, we were excited for a new challenge. Both rooms (completed a week apart) were very well designed: difficult but do-able. What was the real highlight though was the enthuasiasm and engagement of the games host (Sam) which really made the experience stand out from other escape rooms we had completed. We would highly recommend to anyone looking for a rainy day activity in Cornwall :)

We've done several escape rooms both as a family and with friends and this was probably our least favourite.

We liked the fact that it was a different concept (we had to find different ingredients for the chocolate maker) and the host was very friendly and welcoming.

However, one of the elements in the room wasn't working and as a result the room didn't flow properly. I found a couple of the puzzles very irritating. We also didn't like the method of communication when we needed a hint.

Still fun though - especially for a wet day in Cornwall.

We’ve done a number of escape rooms before and found the Prisoner X room at Escape Time to be well organised and a lot of fun. Lots of different puzzles to keep us entertained and thinking. We escaped with 12 mins to go, very much aided by my son randomly being very knowledgable in a certain relevant area, saving us quite a bit of time! Sam was great and gave us a couple of decent clues when we needed it. Will come again to do the other room next time we’re in the area.

Myself and my partner played the Pirate escape room today and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We usually do escape rooms with friends but thought we would try our hand at it with just the two of us. We really enjoyed the puzzles apart from one which required a lot of attention to detail (can’t give much away but the Plank puzzle wasn’t very well done, wasted a lot of time as it was really hard to see). Milly was a great host, really friendly and gave us clues when we asked for them. We really went down to the wire and finished with 23 seconds to spare 😂! Overall it was great fun and we would recommend!
