This round stone artillery fortress was built for Henry the Eighth in 1542, using a cloverleaf plan with a four-storied round tower. Take the free audio tour to discover life at the castle during the Civil War and explore the castle and grounds with its stunning views out to sea. Child friendly and dog friendly.

Well preserved castle with not too steep access from St Mawes itself. Views of Falmouth and the estuary are stunning. Entry is a bit on the expensive sidr, but all of the various floors on the castle were accessible. Recommended

Well worth visiting. Castle is in very good condition, and complementary audio guide is excellent. Parking signage could be better on the road as we missed it first time past, but otherwise an excellent attraction.

This well preserved old castle is under the care of English Heritage. Built by Henry VIII in the 16th century as a defence against the Spanish, who were keen to occupy the deep-water harbour of nearby Falmouth. Full of well recorded history, and used in...More

The castle is nicely preserved and gives a good insight in the life of that era. The audio-guide gave lots of information and was maybe even too detailed. There is a lack of childfriendly information and could be more written information spread over the different...More

What a fabulous piece of history. The castle is complete and the accompanying audio devices bring the place to life. You need to be reasonably fit and agile to get about this wonderful piece of our history but I fully recommend it.

Had a lovely walk up to the castle along the water. Went into the castle on an off chance and was impressed with the pretty views. It was dog friendly but dogs must be kept on a lead. Doesn't take long to walk around it,...More

Just a couple of hours at the castle but if it is a nice day you may want to enjoy the view over to the Falmouth area for a bit longer. St Mawes village is idyllic!

We don't have a dog, but we saw lots of people in the village with their dogs on a lead.
