Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors. The reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips. The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete and is approximately 3.5 miles. Parking is possible at various locations including the Quarry car park, Norsworthy Bridge and the Dam.Low cost bank fishing for both rainbow and brown trout is available at this scenic water; permits are sold at the garage in Yelverton.Being within Dartmoor National Park we kindly request that you drive and park with consideration to other users and animals. The National Cycle Route 27 runs near to Burrator further information is available on the sustrans websiteIce cream vans visit the dam, Norsworthy Bridge and Sharpitor car park.

The walk around the reservoir is about 4.25 miles long and is a mix of gravel paths, waters-edge track, woodland walks and made-up paths. Special dog friendly areas and angling zones. Interesting water fowl and beautiful views.

If you are looking for a restful afternoon then Burrator reservoir is truly amazing. It has beautiful views, places to sit and watch the world go by. The day we visited the weather was fantastic and the coolness of the water made for a fab day. If you are in the area please take time to visit.

So I have been to Burrator Reservoir a million times for walks and cycle rides. We have always done the circuit around the reservoir and then finished with a well deserved ice cream. This year we have started to explore a bit more. In the summer we walked down below the dam and walked through the woods and meadows to... More

I walked around here last week, it took me 1 hour and 15 minuets. There were many people out, families pushing around their babies, young children going around on their bikes, serious walkers and bike riders. Dog walkers. It was a terrific day. Lots to see and great seeing families out enjoying the nice dry weather.

Situated a short drive from Plymouth Burrator Reservoir is a nice place to go for a walk and enjoy the fresh air. Park by the main dam and take the road either way around the reservoir, enjoy the fresh pine smells as you pass the forests and look out for the wildlife.

It's a real pleasure to walk around this beautiful reservoir and take in the sights. Great for spotting wildlife, stretching the legs and breathing in fresh air. Rain or shine a lovely part of the country
