It pretends to be a castle, but it is just a house. It suffers the same problem as most of Sherborne and the people who live there, small town syndrome. The place thinks it is far more important than it really is.

A truly fantastic setting with a superb lake and gardens to die for. Wonder at your leisure and take a camera, photos are a must from any angle. Water fowl in abundance on the lake. Deer on the local hill side (spot the White Hart)...More

Started by Sir Walter Raleigh, this is a lovely little castle, and the guides are very knowledgable about the rooms and history of the contents.

We loved this castle and the grounds, home to Sir Walter Raleigh. The exterior of the house appeared tired and was a bit disappointing, but the interior was really interesting. The very knowledgeable guides were friendly and informative without being intrusive. The rooms were well...More

What a wonderful place. I’m very surprised there are any negative comments at all... All the staff were friendly, courteous and very knowledgable about the history of the castle. The walk around the lake was lovely. Thank you, we’ll be back.

Lovely trip to the castle with 3 children. Castle was interesting & well presented - we all enjoyed it. The grounds are beautiful, even in the rain. Just a shame you can’t get close to the old castle.

Thank you for visiting us. Apologies for the weather. The Old Castle can be largely seen from the far side of the lake. Sadly, access is not granted as it is under the management of English Heritage.

Have just returned from a lovely day at Sherborne. We were blessed with a lovely sunny and warm day although I am sure that this place has beauty all year around as the seasons change. The landscape, gardens and house are exceptional. The contents benefit...More

Walked round the grounds with our youngster. Stopped for a bite & cuppa in tea rooms. Grounds are well kept and pleasant to walk in. Some good space for kids to run about. We were lucky with weather. Perfect afternoon. Would recommend.

Sorry for the late reply - you've probably found the answer out already! It's a while since we went but I'm pretty sure there is access for scooter and wheelchairs but I'll be honest I'm not 100% sure.
