The museum is really lovely - small but so interesting. The lady on the desk was very welcoming and we really enjoyed our visit. Make sure that you leave a donation - whilst the Museum is 'free entry' they do need money to keep the museum running.

It is true, we do rather depend on the goodwill of our visitors to leave a donation, so thank you for pointing that out too. We're all volunteers and we do our best to create an excellent visitor experience.

It is a small place with just a few rooms but it is free and my kids (4 and 7) love going there even though they have been lots of times. In each room there are themed toy boxes (dinosaur, old fashioned toys, dried bugs) that keep the kids happy while the parents look around. If you have to entertain your young kids for an hour or so on a rainy day in Sherborne, this is a good place. …

I learnt that a local girl, Ruth Gervis became a highly respected botanical artist and saw some of her fine botanical drawings. Another local, Benjamin Jesty a farmer and cattle breeder inoculated his wife and sons with cowpox to protect them from smallpox, 24 years before Edward Jenner carried out the same procedure. He was recognised for his efforts and given 15 guineas and a pair of gold lancets but Jenner got the glory having published papers on his work and was awarded £30,000!…
