Lovely to see so many volunteers keen to show off their preserved water wheel and steam engine. Loads of information, but a bit confused as to why the water cane from 2 leats, and not the big castle lake nearby. I had a nice time wandering the site.

The machines were interesting and I loved the enthusiasm of the people showing them.It was an easy walk form the garden centre and they even provided tea and cake.Well worth the visit.

We visited on one of the open days with the pumping engine in steam. I hadn’t realised the centre even existed until looking for somewhere to make up the “cultural” element of a friend’s birthday celebration. The centre hides its light under a bushel to a degree but is a great off-beat attraction manned by friendly, knowledgeable volunteers. Well worth a visit.…

Wonderful open day run by volunteers. (Check their website for open days).The water wheel and steam engines are the main attraction but there were also vintage bicycles, motor bikes and a Hillman Minx car when we attended. They have a cafe with home made cakes.! Admission price is by voluntary donation. You could combine this with a visit to the nearby Old Sherborne Castle. …
