Fun and vibrant and more locals than tourists with some great shops and eateries, a few nice pubs (and a few dodgy ones!) and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Not the cleanest streets but certainly worth walking round.

Just a lovely place to be, you feel welcome, safe and part of the community, it all feels very local despite the fact that you are in the middle of the city. Loads of small cafés and restaurants to enjoy as well as some great...More

Have been going to Brighton for over 30 years, but never stayed in Kemptown. It's a great wee area for wandering around in, with lots of unusual shops, a flea market, and numerous restaurants, cafes, and pubs. We liked the Barley Mow, which has a...More

Some fantastic night spots, drag shows, cafes and walking distance to all the mainstream attractions too - love it here.

I stayed in Kemptown in a guest house, while attending a conference. It is known as the gay area of Brighton but there is lots for straight people to do as well, and it is where most of the guest houses are located. St James...More

There are lots of small shops, cafes and restuarants to check out along St James st. Quite a number of charity shops and even a Fish monger which is an unusual sight these days.

An amazing street with an eclectic mix of bars, cafes and shops. Well worth the visit just to sit at one of the pavement cafes and watch the crazy world go by. A good place for vegetarians and vegans. You might get approached by a beggar...More

The pavements are quite well negotiable in a wheelchair as the kerbs are dropped at the ends of the roads. Some shops do have disabled access upon request but some are at street level. As the previous person says, Kemptown... More
