A must see for history/museum lovers
Goods: Many exhibits here: HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, Mary Rose, and more. To see everything in detail you want to set aside a whole 8hr day. There is so much to see and worth it if your a history/museum lover. Each exhibit has its own gift shop. There are tickets available to scope down your visit to just 1 or 2 attractions. Buy tickets on site and the staff will explain thw different ticket options based on what you would like to do. The staff was awesome throught the area. Others: It is a lot of walking/standing, well over 10,000 steps. The Victory and Warrior are not places to visit if you have trouble being on your feet all day and going up/down steep ladders.
Odyssey18742461295, your wonderful feedback and rating mean a lot to us. We hope you will be back to visit us soon. ^SB

    More than a time filler
Decided to visit the place as I had a couple of free hours before catching my train. I did the three attractions option thinking I could do them quickly. Well I was wrong. I did the Mary-Rose, HMS Victory and HMS warrior. Probably easily spent an hour on each. The Mary-Rose was amazing and had great information as you walked through it. The guides that were around were knowledgeable and friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs. My highlight was the 4d movie near the end. Just amazing what those divers did back then. The Victory was also great and the added commentary you can get at the kiosk is well worth it. Again, this was well detailed and to think how many battles that ship was in and survived, its a testament to it's crew and build. Finally the Warrior was another impressive visit. It probably could have used the audio commentary that the Victory had, but the attendants that were there were again pretty good and informative. Amazing ship, but for me the previous two were my highlights. There are toilets and cafes pin pointed around the place and souvenir shops too. Well worth a visit and getting in early as it gets busy fast and they do have school groups come through which can slow things down. There is also a bag check at the front which makes sense.
Hello Xantheonix, thank you; we appreciate your feedback! We are so pleased you enjoyed the attractions you were able to visit and we hope you will be back to see us again soon. ^SB

Highly recommended glimpse into Naval History and the base.
What’s not to like? This attraction has a number of very interesting features, including HMS victory, HMS Warrior, and the Mary Rose. There are also exhibitions about how historically our Navy has worked, and you can also purchase tickets for the waterborne tour around the docks. If you can't find anything here, that interests you, I would be very surprised. The tickets aren't cheap, but you can reuse them for up to 12 months after purchase. Recommended.
Ianwh6539ld, we're glad you had such a wonderful experience with us! Thanks again for the recommendation, and we hope to see you again soon! ^SF

Helpful staff at the historic dockyard
I went with my elderly father and he is in a wheel chair and although it’s not all accessible (understandably) the staff were so helpful. Especially one lad on the hms victory. His name was Cayden, really nice guy and totally knew his stuff!
Lucygh6174ql, we're happy you found our staff to be so supportive during your experience here at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Thank you for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope to see you again soon! ^RH

    So much to see
This is such a vast selection of major historical ships and naval history that we couldn’t fit it all into one day. We took our 7year old with us and he absolutely loved it. We will definitely have to return to finish off what we did not have time to see. We arrived around 10.30 and parked in the docks car park. Plenty of parking and I’m a multi storey, a small walk to the docks but not cheap it cost us £9 to park. The process to get in was easy and only a small queue. We visited the Warrior, Victory and Mary Rose all very interesting and such impressive parts of history to see. We enjoyed the cannon talk and demonstration on the Warrior ship. We found the staff the most interactive and full of interesting facts and stories on the Warrior ship. There are plenty of places to grab a coffee and cake and a picnic bench. As expected the costs are high in the food venues and gift shops. We got chance to visit the restoration boat house number 4, our son enjoyed the interactive parts on the upper level. We never managed the museums or the submarine as we had run out of steam at 4pm. What we did get to see was the arrival and dock of the Prince of wales air craft carrier which was docked next to the Queen Elizabeth air craft carrier. Which was a great sight to see coming into Portsmouth and to be next to each other. I certainly think it’s a great place to visit especially for families of different ages.
Kirstyand0liver, we are so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard! Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your visit. We are so glad that you had such a great time exploring and thank you for your kind words about our staff. We do hope to see you again soon! ^RH

    Highly recommend
Highly recommend. We purchased the Ultimate Explorer ticket so we could visit on both Saturday and Sunday (and come back again during the year) There is so much to see and do we couldn’t fit it all in. Nothing felt too crowded with visitors, the staff were helpful. We particularly enjoyed the Mary Rose and the harbour tour. The ferry boat across to the submarine museum was quick. We can’t wait to visit again

This trip was the hilight of our trip! There are so many stories. When you go into a ship, you can feel the history just radiating from every part or in the Mary Rose's case every exhibit! Would recommend 👌 BTW check out the 4d it is brilliant

    Aircraft Carriers galore 😎
Sunny boat trip around the navy dockyard admiring all the ships and aircraft carriers. We arrived by bus and train from Hayling Island. Within 20 minutes we were sailing around the Royal Navy dockyard on the Alicat catamaran in glorious sunshine.

We only had limited time so couldn’t spend the whole day unfortunately.
I’ve always wanted to visit HMS Victory as I’ve ancestors who served with Lord Nelson, not on the Victory though.
There are extensive long term renovations ongoing but this shouldn’t and didn’t spoil our visit in anyway as you still have access to most of the ship.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
The audio guide is well worth using as there are many interesting facts about the ship and battle.
Hopefully I’ll be able to return when the renovations are complete to see her in her full glory.

I am disabled and ride an electric trike. I was refused entry to the dockyard with the excuse that the Navy won't allow it. I asked about nearby secure cycle parking and none exists. Customer relations was also awful. With such a bad experience I did not go in. I would not recommend cyclists or the disabled visiting this attraction.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, though we are sorry to hear of your experience and the disappointment and impact on your visit. Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is located within an active naval base, and therefore we are obligated to enforce the Royal Navy and MOD list of prohibited items, which includes bicycles (for those without a base pass). We aim to accommodate all visitors and we can provide manual wheelchairs on arrival on a first come first served basis, or a booking can be made in advance via our customer engagement team for your planned visit day. We also work closely with Portsmouth ShopMobility, and bookings for electric scooters can be made in advance direct with Portsmouth ShopMobility. We also offer companions that are accompanying a full-paying visitor that requires additional support a free carers ticker either in advance online or on the day of their visit. However, we are sorry to hear of your experience and we would like to take this as an opportunity to review and improve our offer. Please contact us on reviews@nmrn.org.uk if you wish to discuss your experience further. We are committed to the safety of our visitors and we do hope this has not deterred you from future visits. ^SF

We spent the day here visiting the Warrior and the dockyard. We had a great time and a lot of that was in no small part due to the excellent staff aboard the ship who spent time with our two toddler grandchildren explaining things in a way they could understand and enjoy and letting them get into hammocks. We can't wait to return to see the rest of the site.

Twenty years since our last visit and it was really good to see improvements and extra ships to visit, the Mary Rose Exhibit was amazing. The submarine was incredible. Victory is undergoing major repair works so was limited to the central aspect of the ship. Ran out of time so never made it to Warrior. Definitely need more than one day to see everything in detail.

Absolutely fascinating museums with really passionate staff.

Big shout out to Pat who sold us our tickets, super friendly and helpful making sure we got the right tickets for what we wanted to see.

Seems expensive at first but when you realise how much there is to see it’s 100% worth it!

The most wonderful place to visit. We have annual memberships so can go as often as we want to see as much each time as we want. The highpoints are the ships which are amazing experiences. The recent 4D 'cinema' in the Mary Rose makes a five star experience even better. Only the cafeteria lets it down with poor sandwiches. Once you have experienced all on site, you can take the free ferry over to the submarine museum and be taken on a cold war sub by a veteran. You can also get harbour boat tours. Currently you can experience the renovation of the Victory by going up the scaffolding - what a great idea.

A nice trip. When I went here there was many ships that you could go on and it had amazing views of Portsmouth harbour and HMS Prince of wales. However I do not recommend going on HMS Victory here if you are over 6 foot as the ceiling is very low and I banged my head many times. The staff when you enter seemed very exasperated like they were forced to be here but apart from that it was an amazing trip I highly recommend for any history fans in the south.
