About
Wightlink is the leading cross-Solent ferry operator carrying almost five million holidaymakers and Islanders to the Isle of Wight every year. We provide a vehicle and foot passenger ferry service from Portsmouth, one of Britain’s most vibrant port cities with excellent travel connections, to Fishbourne, conveniently located for anyone visiting the Isle of Wight. Portsmouth to Fishbourne is our most popular route. Facilities in both ports include a customer building serving hot and cold food and drinks, rapid charging points (50kwh) for electric vehicles, two-tier boarding for efficient loading and unloading of vehicles, ticket office, toilets and baby-changing facilities. Car parking and bicycle racks are also available. The crossing takes 45 minutes, using several of our vessels to serve the route, including our new hybrid energy powered flagship, Victoria of Wight.

Excellent service
Jun 2021 • Couples
Took my parents to the island , my mother in a wheelchair , the guys that work on the ferry were very accomadating for the wheelchair access and parked us right next to the lift with ample room for door opening , we couldn't fault either crossing , yes expensive stretch of water but excellent customer service
Many thanks

Portsmouth to Fishbourne

Firstly, we rushed to get there for 30 mins before departure but seems we needn’t have bothered as you just go on the next boat that leaves anyway. Once onboard it’s a relaxing journey on a modern vessel with shops etc onboard. Some say it’s ‘expensive’ but not sure what they want them to charge I imagine operating costs are high!

Comfortable travel
May 2021
The tickets are quite expensive to take the car across, but we found the car essential for getting around. the ferries run frequently and are well organised and a fun way to travel. The facilities on board for the quick journey are good.

Expensive ferry service for tourists - but efficient
May 2021
We took the ferry (day trip) from Portsmouth to Fishbourne. A very quick, pleasant trip, easy drive on and off, refreshments onboard, staff nice and friendly.
Cost us £68 return with car and two adults for day. I think that's a bit high but I'm used to similar costs for cross channel ferries for the day, so I may be unfair. It's a good service nonetheless and they operate hourly or thereabouts.
Food prices onboard similar to Motorway service stations.
Note. If you can de-imobilise the car alarm before driving onto ferry - you'll see why!
Overall, good service, but pricing not favourable for tourists!! Takes 40mins door to door.

An extremely well organised process for embarking and disembarking on both journeys. The facilities at Portsmouth were good as were those onboard.

Profit over understanding
May 2021
I've been traveling to and from the Island via Wightlink for decades. Bitterly disappointed at the attitude of the check in staff yesterday. We arrived late having been stuck in dreadful traffic, due to accidents. I'd allowed 3 hours to make a 2 hour journey and in the end it took 4hr 15mins.

A scrappy bit of paper was thrust at me and the exit pointed at. We were unable to rebook and although our ticket is being held over for use if possible later in the year our weekend away was lost.

This is the first time this has happened to me and I think Wightlink need to step back and consider allowing a % of space for no fault late arrivals. Clearly they only really care about 100% booking efficiency and profit.

Efficient service
May 2021
Service very efficient, check in with number plate recognition picked up our pre booked mobility access requirements without having to ask. Boarding simple and efficient and the Victoria of Wight one of the quietest ships I’ve sailed on. Only criticism was the covid measures on board, despite being required by law to wear face masks onboard around 90% of passengers weren’t, staff didn’t enforce it even when customers in queue for coffee. Mentioned it to a member of staff who informed me it wasn’t their job to police covid restrictions!

Always a great service with Wightlink
May 2021 • Couples
I have travelled with Wightlink quite a few times now. They are absolutely perfect. The booking process is simple, the staff could not be more helpful, and the boats are comfortable and spacious.

I have never been delayed, even on a day like today when there were gale force winds. The staff are super helpful and efficient and will always try to board you as soon as possible if you are there and an earlier boat is available.

The boats are super clean inside with plenty of room and you can buy drinks and snacks on board.

We always pay for our trip using our Tesco Clubcard vouchers, so it has never cost us anything to travel.

Wightlink also now offer a priority boarding option, so for £10 per crossing you can board before the other passengers (and thus also depart first too).

I have no grumbles about Wightlink and would definitely recommend you travel with them.

Thank you to everybody at Wightlink for being so fabulous!
