Steaming in the late summer sun

This was our first trip on Shieldhall. We were really impressed with the ship and the friendliness and knowledge of the volunteer crew. we were also blessed with great weather that allowed us to get a different view of the port of Southampton and its workings.

Just so interesting and relaxing. Southampton Water and Docks are fascinating. Shieldhall itself is worth travelling on more than once.

Educationally beneficial. Volunteers on board all customer friendly and knowledgeable. The trip was also great value for money.
SS Shieldhall is a very beautiful and well maintained ship who sailed seemingly effortlessly.
Very easy to recommend going on one of the SS Shieldhall trips.

Excellent

For me the best part of the experience was at the beginning, sailing past all the exotic liners in Southampton water. There was opportunities to talk to the crew, visit most places on the ship ie the engine room and the bridge. Although I didn't partake there was a gorgeous smell of cooking from the saloon. The staff (apparently all volunteers) were very helpful and happy to answer questions about the vessel. It was brilliant way to spend the day and I will happily do it again next year. Thanks shipmates!!!!Exce

A GREAT experience which should not be missed. You get access to nearly all of the Ship, including the Bridge, Engine Room and Boiler Room. The Crew are very friendly and are happy to chat with you.

Great day out
Sep 2021 • Family
SS Shieldhall provides great day out for whole family. You can lurk under the deck to see engine room, have a chat with the Captain or have a great fod and beer ( in very affordable prices). Ther are also activities for kids who can fill up log book by collecting stickers and searching for things on board.
Tip: if you going with child make sure you take ear protection, steam whistle and signals are very noisy

A Grand Day Out at the Bournemouth Air Festival
Sep 2021
What a fantastic day out!
We were welcomed aboard by a the very friendly members of the crew. The captain was none other than Robin Knox-Johnston!
There were plenty of passengers but not too many, so there were plenty of seats and it was easy to walk about.
It was fascinating watching the ship being manoeuvred and seeing the pilot transferring between the ship and the pilot cutter.
We anchored off Bournemouth and had a grandstand view of the Air Festival. We had an advantage over the beach. The sun was behind us. Some of the aircraft flew right over us.
The journey home was very relaxing. It was fun passing the Sandbanks Ferry. Each time the Shieldhall passed, we had a hooter duel! Of course, we always won!
The voyage was from 10.00 until 19.00 and I enjoyed every minute of it.
