Lacklustre production….don’t waste your money.

Crazy for Gershwin….lacklustre production, poorly presented. Individually the dancers were good but with only one couple on stage at a time they were fighting a losing battle - no zip, no sparkle just dull. We left at the interval..total waste of £44.50 per seat…have seem better at dance/ theatre school concerts…. Expected a far more interesting and professional production..Don’t waste your money.

Brilliant show.

Another visit to the Mayflower, this time to see the brilliant show Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Fantastic music and full of innuendos! Actors and dancers were fantastic! Mayflower staff worked hard to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves. Looking forward to our next visit.

It's wonderful to be back in my happy place, the Theatre!

What a brilliant evening at the Mayflower, Southampton! Our first concert in nearly two years.🎉. Missed them so much. To see two great bands, Johnny Hates Jazz and Level 42, what an amazing evening! Seeing everyone enjoying themselves was such a sign of normality returning!

We went to the Mayflower for the first time last night to see the Elvis Tribute show. What a great night. Nice theatre, brilliant atmosphere and a superb show. Really really enjoyed it.

Magnificent 2 hours 20 minutes from Think Floyd
Sep 2021
I bought a ticket, half-way back in the stalls for the number-1 rated Pink Floyd tribute group, Think Floyd. The sound quality was truly excellent - it could not have been better. The theatre was 90% full, with the Circle seats spaced apart as an extra COVID precaution. Although the internet instructions suggested that masks should be worn throughout the show, few did wear them. Anyway, the show's the thing. The group played the whole of the Wall album, adding various other favourites at the start and at the end. The highlight was a memorable 4-minute guitar solo on the track 'Comfortably Numb', unbelievably good and it received a standing ovation. This group, founded 25 years ago, are top-class musicians and the sound they produce, along with the laser light show, make for a splendid evening's rock show. The Mayflower Theatre itself is an excellent sight, with comfortable chairs and, on this occasion, extra ventilation to reduce the COVID risk. I have rarely enjoyed an evening more.

So happy to be back
Aug 2021
So happy to be back at The Mayflower.

Had a designated entrance for stalls (noted on tickets) so bypassed the foyer and went straight to our seats.

Theatre was full, I would say about half plus were wearing masks although there were signs asking you to wear them.

Show was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed.

Nice to be back

Parking is not an issue as there are 4 choices. Closest and smallest is the layby along Southampton Rd outside a row of shops. Pay and display but free after 1800. Next is just around the corner, left at the traffic lights and again outside some shops. Also pay and display. 3rd option is the large open air park next to the station. Pay at machine (usually broken) or at ticket office in the station building. Last and biggest is the multi storey, where spaces are small and after the show, all the drivers from all the floors want to use the single at the same time. Need patience.

The theatre itself allows entry only 45 mins before the performance meaning a 15 minute wait outside in the street as the website advises arriving 1 hour before the start. Not good for a 90 year old with mobility problems. It would also help if the ticket scanner machine worked. All the time we were in the queue it was not tested as functional until it failed at the first try. Well done the duty front of house manager for giving up his machine to get the punters moving. Not so well done the doorman for not checking his equipment.

The bar was its old boisterous self with eager theatre goers soaking up the pre show atmosphere as well as the booze. Nice to have the auditorium opening early too allowing a steady flow from the bar to the seats instead of the usual last minute rush. The low number seats in row J were excellent,as the line of sight to the stage, was slightly left of the heads in front so no obstruction. There is also additional leg run since the refurbishment and I believe additional padding in the cushions, as the normally numb posterior, did not distract.

The show itself varies with each visit but the theatre gets all the praise. Well done Mayflower. Can't wait for the Panto in Jan next year, but will have to. Oh yes I will.
