We were told by our hotel staff that the Castle was closed due to it crumbling away. We were surprised to find it open to visitors so entered at our peril. We did not pay an entrance fee so do not know about charges if...More

I laughed when I read other reviewers saying this was hard to find, but I recon we did 2 laps of winchester trying to find it. But it's free, there's hardly anyone there, and it's a pleasant place to chill in the sun.

Well maintained but nothing much to see. Would recommend if you are visiting Winchester. The whole atmosphere is very good and there is an Increase Stall just outside during the summer months.

You can't miss out on this incredible site which was once the home of the Bishop of Winchester. It is only a few minutes walk from the Cathedral.

Steeped in interesting history and the partial reconstruction is well maintained. We enjoyed wandering, reading the signs and drinking it in.

I opted to visit this place nearby to the cathedral as time was limited and it's free admission. The prominent information boards provide helpful background information to the interesting history of the castle - well worth a visit.

A lovely old ruin with excellent information boards which allows you to understand the layout and uses of the castle in olden days.

Quite a sizeable ruin along a pleasant walking route. Rather pleasant to visit. Quiet and peaceful. Part of the ruin now form the walls for a school playground.
