St Albans Cathedral is the oldest site of continuous Christian worship in Britain. It stands over the place where Alban, the first martyr, was buried after giving his life for his faith over 1700 years ago.The building itself is a blend of architectural styles spanning a millennia and contains recycled Roman bricks from Verulamium. Of special interest are the 13th century wall paintings, a rare watching loft and the shrines of Saint Alban and Amphibalus, the priest who converted Alban to Christianity.

We tend to take such things for granted in England but stop for a while and marvel at the stonework, precision and artistry, bask in the rainbow beams cascading from stained glass and bathe in the soaring sonic wonder of the choir if you are...More

On a recent visit to family in St. Albans we decided to visit the cathedral. As you would expect, it was very quiet and serene, a really wonderful building, steeped in history. And you just try the cafe, wonderful choice, reasonable prices, friendly staff. If...More

It is a wonderful abbey come cathedral. It was a snowy day outside - and there was a warmth about the place - only issue I did have was that (as is now generally the case, unfortunately) people do not respect the place. I was...More

This place is a must. I recommend getting there in plenty of time so to do the building justice. It is a gem of English cathedrals. The tomb of st Alban but also wandering around and enjoying the architecture. My recommendation is simple- look up!!

Absolutely outstanding. The history, the beauty of this place is awesome. We even stood and watched a choir practice. Stunning.

The stained glass windows in the Abbey were beautiful, as were the whole of the inside. I spent most of my visit walking around looking up at the ceilings. Lovely to see the drawings on the pillars and the Shrine of St Albans

This Cathedral is definitely worth a visit. Not only because it is beautiful but also because of the friendly people inside. We were there at a time of an important ceremony and could therefore not see all of it. But still it was worth it.
