Down winding lanes with only a layby for parking and a minimum of display boards and no visitors' centre - a very pleasant reminder of childhood holidays with a homemade picnic.

The reason being I lived in Cliffsend as a kid and we walked down to St Augustines Cross just to sit. At the time the lavender farm was over the road and a little hut sold creams soaps etc all made form the lavender. I wanted that job when I grew up but sadly by the time I did it... More

The cross is near where St Augustine landed in this country, bringing the start of our religious beliefs, not much here, but a nice place visit any way. A small lay by to park in, a very narrow road.

As people have said the cross is quite modern(1884) but it is to commemorate the arrival of St Augustine in England in AD 597. In 595 Pope Gregory asked the monk Augustine to convert the people of Kent to Christianity. A stream near here is also meant to be where he first baptised his first convert. When we went it was... Although this is hard to find it is worth a slight detour as it is a relevant and interesting marker in English history. The cross was erected in 1884 and it is decoratively carved and marks the site where St. Augustine brought Christianity to Britain in 597. There is an information board in front of the memorial. Had this have... More

Its a nicely erected modern cross owned by Englush Heritage there is an information board but its nice to go up and study it. There is a nice area of parking for a couple cars but it was tricky to find.

This is an English Heritage site near Ramsgate. But the cross is modern, erected in 1884, marking the site where St. Augustine brought Christianity to Britain in 597.

Haven't been here for years but remember it from my childhood days. Very impressive and well kept. Not a lot of visitors have been here!

I love such places, even if there's not that much to see, basically stone cross and... that's it. But it tells you a lot about history and lets your imagination start. Not easy to find, easy to pass by, even if the brown road signs doing a good job.
