THE FERENS ART GALLERY IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR MAJOR REFURBISHMENT AND WILL REOPEN EARLY 2017. Opened in 1927, the award winning Ferens Art Gallery combines internationally renowned permanent collections with a thriving programme of temporary exhibitions. We also run a lively education and events programme that includes tours, talks and art workshops. The gallery's first-class permanent collection of paintings and sculpture spans the medieval period to the present day. These include European Old Masters, particularly Dutch and Flemish, portraiture, marine paintings, modern and contemporary British art, including video. Highlights include masterpieces by Frans Hals, Antonio Canaletto, Stanley Spencer, David Hockney, Helen Chadwick and Gillian Wearing.

This isn't a huge art gallery but there is some impressive art there. The highlight was the Rembrandt painting, which is on loan for this year from the Queen's collection. Free entry as well!

This is lovely gallery with spacious big light rooms. There was a good variety of art from old masters to modern. Some excellent exhibitions. Spencer Tunick’s 'Sea of Hull' photographs were very impressive. As were Ron Mueck’s striking sculptures of the human form.

Ferens was an art gallery I regularly visited in the sixties when I was an undergraduate in Hull.It was excellent then and is quite phenomenal now.I visited whist in the Hull for the City of Culture.

Go through the doors and you could belive you are in London or florence or paris the displays are really that good. Of you enjoyed this gallery try a trip to Barcelona you won't regret it.

We were really impressed with the Ferens. First time visit. Rembrandt on loan from Queens Collection is superb. Mueck exhibition was eye-opening. A great little gallery. We enjoyed the 20th century rooms and the temporary Skin exhibition. Nice cafe too with a good selection of food.

It's open 10am-5pm Mon to Sat with late opening until 7.30pm on Thursday. On Sunday it's open from 11am-4.30pm.
