We took the route up from the car park near the Blencathra Centre. Although it is early August we experienced cold hard pulverising rain; light misty rain, penetrating strong winds; so typical Lakes District weather! The route was good for us and my daughter caught...More

I started my climb from the small car park just above the Blencathra Centre. On the positive side, the position of this car park is about one third of the way up the mountain so the climb itself wasn't as strenuous as it might otherwise...More

We intended to a fairly easy route up Blease Fell, but forgot to turn left at the crucial moment and ended up grappling with an ascent straight up via Gategill Fell and Knott Halloo. It was tough, to say the least! Apparently Gategill is one...More

Blencathra has everything you could want from a lakeland fell. walking routes and 2 adventurous ridges (Halls fell and the more serious Sharp Edge) easily accessed but quickly feeling remote it is a great short day out.

I feel lucky living in Carlisle and having these beautiful fells on my doorstep. Blencathra is definitely one of my favourites and provides a mixture of scrambling and walking routes to the top. Hall’s Fell Ridge is without a doubt my favourite route to the...More

What a walk/climb.....! It was a lot more that I bargained for. From the bottom looking up I wondered what I was doing then we went up via Hall's Fell (I have a head for heights but looking down made me feel a bit funny!)...More

We decided on Wednesday 1/3/17 to climb the summit of Blencathra (from the Centre) not up Sharps edge! The higher we got the more the cloud came in until we reached the zigzag path, and then the snow and the hail started to fall! reaching...More
