A great mountain with interesting history, and a great peak - one of the few mountains in the Lakes where you really know you're at the top.

NO regrets! The hard route was....hard..and my friends wanted to kill me during it. However, they did not regret it once we got to the top and loved every minute of it! PHEW! What a delightful walk and you can happily do the easy route...More

If your in Coniston this is a must, the views on the top are spectacular. The history up there from the Cooper mines makes you really appreciate what hard work it would of been.

Lovely walk and lots to explore and see. The views are great all the way up. The old slate mines and equipment makes the walk a lot more interesting. Easy paths to follow and lots of places to stop and take in the views. One...More

Fairly tough climb, path from Coniston is clear and firm but not flat. iPhone tracker suggested we had climbed 200 flights of steps and legs certainly felt this way. Dinner in the Sun as we came off the mountain was very welcome.

An amazing walk to one of the Lakes highest peaks. Definitely not for the unfit and definitely too much for our small dog who will sleep very well tonight. I'd say this walk is equally as demanding as Scarfell or Ben Nevis and requires appropriate...More

This was definitely worth the climb. It's not an easy climb by any means so be prepared for that. However we did take a dog up with us too so it's doable. The weather wasn't in our favour so the views were non existent but...More

There are numerous different ways to climb the Old Man - you could go a different way every day for a week. Well worth going the Coppermines way to see the mine workings or go via the slate workings at Saddlestone Bank and see the...More

You'll have no issues at all. I'm nearly 50 and make an annual pilgrimage every year for charity. Wouldn't consider myself fit and I do struggle in mid section of steps but slow and steady wins the race. Enjoy

No, if you and your son are up for some adventure and don't mind carrying the obligatory large picnic and even bigger bag of harribo then I would do it with my kids. You could get up there in an hour if you walk from the... More

Hi David, I would say that the route is not suitable for a disabled buggy. It is quite a rough route and even an able bodied person is going to need to do a bit of scrambling to get up.
