Great walk before dinner!

This is a favourite walk if you have time once you've arrived and want some exercise before dinner (3.6 miles - 2 hours). Great climb up and fabulous views.

Which ever way you choose to approach Alcock tarn it can be a bit of a pull up, it takes about 1 hour to walk from Grasmere village centre. The more interesting way up is from the back of Dove cottage, up the lane which branches off to the left, notice how wide the lane is, " it was designed... More

This is a fantastic walk with amazing views although a little steep it's nothing most people should have any trouble with, the yarn has a lovely tranquillity about it and we saw no other people on our walk.

This is a great but strenuous walk. Alcock Tarn is lovely and the views are very good. You can even see the Langdales on the way up. It is normally a round walk but beware. A bridge on the return leg was washed out in last year's floods and has not yet been replaced. This means you have a large... More

Lowish level walk with great views. Looking for a day off from the heights, but want to keep the legs working? Then this is for you. A little steep at times, but with plenty of respite. the rout is very clear, the views magnificent. Some history too.

A bit steep up and down but well worth it for the views. Easy to follow route - worth taking your pole. The bridge across the stream has washed away so be careful crossing the water

Great walk up to the Tarn, but its hard work and gravelly in places. You need to be quite fit and take walking poles with you to steady yourselves!Nice to find a sheltered bit of rock to eat a picnic while admiring the Tarn and Ducks!

A hard walk up past Dove Cottage and through the wood... but views are spectacular! Essential good foot ware walk and sticks are helpful for surer footing...

This is a lovely quiet walk to choose and fairly easy for a quick morning or afternoon round trip from grasmere. Much less busy than Easedale tarn, but then it is smaller and there isn't the waterfall.
