A fab walk up to Alcock Tarn, a small tarn at the top, but the view are outstanding. Just one problem you have to go back the same way you came up!! We didn't and the bridge across Green Ghyll waterfall had been washed away!!...More

Enjoyed a snowy walk up to the Tarn in December - beautiful views across Grasmere valley and very peaceful at the tarn (the snow and time of year definitely helped). Paths were good, although we didn't take the circular route because of the missing bridge...More

We undertook this walk twice during our week stay, each time it took approx. 2.5 hours from Grasmere. The walk up from Dove Cottage side is pleasant although steep in parts, but well worth it for the views of Grasmere, Windermere and surrounding lakes. The...More

From Grasmere village it takes about 2half hours. Stunning views of grasmere lake. A little steep but an easy hike. Crosses a small waterfall over a bridge

Nice walk up to the tarn with great views on the way up and from the top. Peaceful place at the tarn to relax. Nice circular route from Grasmere it is quite steep though but worth it.

We enjoyed a circular 4 mile walk up to Alcock Tarn. The paths are well maintained and signage is good and the views across lakeland were great from the tarn.

Views are wonderful, over grasmere village and lake. Not too tough even for me. We had to wade through the stream on way down as the bridge is under repair so waterproof shoes a good idea.

Alcock Tarn is a wee bit special as it's hidden away off the beaten track. Many ramblers do not venture of the Coffin Route between Rydal and Grasmere but the walk up to the tarn is lovely with wonderful alternative views over Grasmere, Helm Crag...More

My daughter and I set out on a cold, rainy day to do this walk with directions printed out by the Inn at Grasmere. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk which has some steep inclines and declines but well worth the hike! We saw the village...More

It appears that all the walks we have been in Windermere, Grasmere, Somerset do not have park rangers present. The trails are also poorly marked. For visitors who have bad sense of direction, shall proceed with care or go with a guide if available. There...More
