Great sheep-free, off-lead walks for your dog and dog-friendly cafe, too

I visited here with my 10 year old daughter, her friend and our dog. We parked in the Kennels carpark as that's where we came to first from the Hawkshead direction. We went to the visitors' centre to ask about a walk we could do in an hour while waiting for the girls' time on the Go Ape course. We... More

Visited on a lovely Sunday day in Feb and we did the red trail. Few steep climbs but worth it when u reach the lookout point at the top. Beautiful 360 views of the Lake District, you can see for miles. The car park is easy to find and not badly priced.

Came here as staying in Hawkshead. Lovely walks and large visitors centre. Routes clearly marked with recommendations on length/ distance and difficulty of walk. We arrived at around 0930 however when we left at lunchtime, the carpark was getting quite busy. Lots of bike trails too

Visited again this year - parked and did the the Grizedale Tarn walk which was excellent. The Go Ape now extends right through here and I think it must be a little noisier if that's busy. Good car park system takes a debit card

Visited weekend in February. Great scenery and walks of different difficulty. Plenty of parking with max £7 a day charge. Great for mountain biking or walking with free toilets and a decent cafe and visitor centre

We chose the "easy" yellow trail .... nope not easy at all!!! There's a very steep climb at the begging which I didn't find easy! After the massive climb it did get a lot easier but the first climb is hard , also didn't see any sculpture's 😩very disappointed as we traveled 2 hours for! Apart from that had a... More

I have to say I was disappointed with Grizedale Forest mountain biking. The forest is quite a way off the main road and when you get here, you a greeted by a multi-million pound visitor centre, which for the area, appears to be totally over-the-top! I am sure that it is probably aimed at families and kids, so I couldn't... More

We visited as a family and used the two short footpaths, which were easy going and had a good selection of sculpture collection along the route. You need to keep an eye out for mountain bikers who use the same and crossing paths but users are very aware of walkers and you van usually see and hear them approaching! There's... More

Visited early January, weather fine, parking was easy. Lovely restaurant with friendly staff. Good information centre detailing the walks with helpful staff advising on walk times etc. We wanted a 1 to 2 hour walk with dogs off leads, found the yellow walk to be perfect. It also looked ideal for cycling and of course there is the woodland adventure... More
