Description:

Immerse yourself in Lake District History at the Museum of Lakeland Life...

Immerse yourself in Lake District History at the Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry. Inside you can explore a typical Victorian farmers home from the food in the kitchen, to the elegance of the parlour. Other galleries tell the story of the Arts and Crafts movement, and the industrial history of this beautiful part of the world. Here you can discover the Lake District’s past in farming, mining, tanning, and many other ways that people have made a living amongst the fells.

The Museum allows you to discover how people have lived in the Lake District and how the unique landscape has shaped their lives. You can also find out about Arthur Ransome, one of the Lake District’s most famous authors, and colourful characters. And why not stroll down the Victorian high street before you go to find out about the toys, food, and even medicines of the past.

The Museum of Lakeland life is a must see for anyone interested in the history of this beautiful area, and with changing exhibitions looking at all aspects of Lakeland Life there will always be something new to discover.

I learned lots of new stuff. The displays were interesting and well labelled. I particularly liked looking at the kitchen gadgets.

I attended with my girlfriend in Feb 2017 when trying to avoid the rain! It was £5 to enter and was well worth the entry fee, showed a good idea of Lakeland life and was quite entertaining with simple ideas to keep them interested. Could spend a good couple of hours here

Great little museum on a short lunch stop on the way into Scotland. Took about an hour, was free, and was fantastic in the introduction to Lakeland life. Highly recommended

What a delight to find this museum in the middle of Kendal with easy parking - on a drizzly cold day in January! A succession of realistic room-settings enable you to imagine what life must have been like in the 19th century in this area. Another dimension is the industry section, with descriptions of the multifarious trades carried on in... More

At first thought it a little expensive, but once inside and food such interesting information, it was well worth the entrance fee. It was laid out in such a way, everything was clearly marked with information leaflets

It was a bit of a drizzly day, so we decided to visit this museum. Our expectations weren’t very high, but we were pleasantly surprised at the range of objects on display, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It seemed that we were the only visitors at the time, so perhaps more could be done to advertise this interesting perspective... More

Visited in order to drop off my sheep for the auction. I received a lovely welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits. The shop was relevant and excellent too. I am going to make the Tatie Pie from your recipe. Well done to all involved.
