Steep climb, great view

Still amazing view over Kendal. Been here twenty years ago and was great to come back. I would have liked to have something to hold on to while climbing up, though. Was very muddy... read more

Make sure you've good footwear - even though it's on top of a hill the water table is very high and the ground is very heavy. Great views though.

The views are nice but it's literally a few stones poorly built . Took the kids up on a half term trip to Kendal as I visited in December so we walked up here and truly regret it . The castle is dangerous and I was worried my kids would fall . The climb to the castle is very steep... More

Still amazing view over Kendal. Been here twenty years ago and was great to come back. I would have liked to have something to hold on to while climbing up, though. Was very muddy and a bit slippery, so make sure you are wearing boots or go on a dry day.

The views of Kendal from the castle are amazing and the children had a great time exploring. The weather was great and this made the day great fun.

This walk is amazing since it offers a differing set of rewards upon every visit. Try the approach from Castle Estate - if you're up for a 'Heart-Building' Challenge. Other than that, the gentle amble from Castle Road, nearer to Castle Street could provide a more relaxed climb. Once on top, view the 360 degree views...then descend towards the west,... More

A short walk from the town centre of Kendal, the castle is on a hill overlooking the whole town. The paths were a bit muddy, but we did go at the end of December. The walk was quite nice and the views were great on a clear day, but it would have been a bit better if the information on... More

Good place to go for a walk and great views over Kendal. Castle mostly in ruins but areas for exploration.

The view when you are looking out from the castle to the surrounding countryside is quite stunning and well worth the short steep climb. I would say for me and my wife it was little spoilt by the endless dogs running around past you barking at you, I do like dogs but I felt the owners seem to not really... More

Definitely worth the climb up from this lovely town- views are fantastic and extensive, north and west across the peaks of the Lake District- excellent on a clear summer's evening as the sun sets. Ruins are relatively modest but still worth scrambling about and reading the information panels. Easy walk back down into town for a well deserved cuppa!
