Although Kendal Castle is only a ruin now it still has its charms and on our visit the first snows of winter had fallen over the mountains of the Lake District which made for excellent views and photos.

A good excuse to climb a very steep hill. The kites were good but just finishing. The views over Kendal were wonderful and gave a whole new perspective to the town.

The castle has received some funding in recent years, and is worth a visit if you’re in the town. I particularly appreciated the several information boards within the castle grounds, since they helped to explain a little of the castle’s history and showed how it might have looked in its heyday. The views from the castle are quite good too.

Spent an afternoon walking across the river and took the long way round to approach the castle from the opposite side. Short but steep climb achieved shortly after a very heavy rain shower, meant very wet grass and slippery in places. Great views from the top though, and good information on the boards.

Kendal castle as a ruin in a nice park is always a good place to go for a walk and a look at the view, but it doesnt offer more than half an hours wandering. I would suggest you incorporate it in a walk of kendal and take in both castles and the pleasant town itself.

I grew up with the backdrop of Kendal Castle as my grandparents used to live on the estate at the bottom of the hill. When I was really young I always thought they lived in a castle. This site is now in ruins but always provides a good walk to the top and once you get up there you are... More

The walk to the castle can be combined with a 4 to 5 mike ramble around Kendal. We usually start at the bottom of the High Street /Gillinggate junction and the head to river to cross to by the footbridge. From there up Parr lane to the Castle. From the top there a great views of the area. Follow the... More

The Castle hill is great place for these people who like to have a great view over the Kendal town - there you can see the beauty of Kendal. Its mostly windy there, so take warm clothes with you.

We recently visited the lake district and stayed in Kendal and decided to have a walk out to the remains of Kendal Castle. The walk is quite steep but was well worth it as the views from the castle of the surrouinding area were excellent. Well worth a visit
