3/5 difficulty walk. Great day when combined with a ferry across the lake. A loop back through the Newlands valley brings in some nice views and takes about 4 hours at a leisurely pace.

Although my wife and I usually stick to fairly level, easy walks around the lakes we decided to tackle Catbells and we were not disappointed. We took the early launch from Keswick across to the start of the walk on the other side of Derwent...More

This was one our favorite walks in the Lake District. It's a straightforward climb that's not difficult, but you are rewarded with amazing views. There are a lot of folks walking this trail so it might be good to go in the early morning or...More

This is a relatively easy climb and has stupendous views from the top of Derwentwater and many Wainwrights around and about. We climbed from Little Town, which turned out to be a good thing because it was easier to climb than the more popular route

We are lucky enough to live in Keswick so a walk up Catbells is very handy for us! We know how busy it can be during the holidays so we picked a week day and a beautiful sunny morning! Parking Close by is good but...More

Did a 10 mile walk around Derwent water and up Cat Bells on a lovely sunny day. Great views reward quite a challenging walk in some sections where the path leads to a couple of scrambling climbs...which were great fun to do.

Had partly cloudy day for this walk, and cool temps, which was good since it's pretty steep in places. The walk requires a little scrambling in a couple places and is plenty breathtaking for those with a little fear of heights. Still doable by young...More

This was the most picturesque place we had seen on our trip through Ireland and the UK this past month. You can walk along the lake or hike up to Latrigg for a panoramic view of the lakes.

Hi, sorry I've only just replied I've been busy. The actual walk up Cat Bells took roughly two hours. That's with a 10 & 7 yo. We took a boat from derwent water and a another back, so the whole trip was a good mornings... More

If, as you say, it is worth every step, why not 5 stars? You point out the sections from the north which require a scramble, no big deal, that would not warrant a loss of stars since this section is avoidable, you are reviewing the walk, not its ease or accessibility per se. So why not 5 stars?

Hi - the only reason it loses one star is the amount of people there - being one of the most popular walks in the Lake district has the downside of having to stop and let a lot of people passed - this of course is not really... More
Hi, is there a name for the car park at Hawes End? We are meeting up there as a group to walk and don't know what to put in our satnavs. If you could help that would be great thanks. Thanks Clare

It's just up the road from the Hawes End Outdoor Centre, whose postcode is Ca12 5ub. It only holds about 10 cars, but if you carry on along the road between the mountain and the lake, there are numerous roadside parking... More
