Quite an easy walk with a few steep and rocky bits. A few different ways to go, we went in the entrance the same time as another couple but soon lost them as we took a route through the woods and up some steps but...More

Only a twenty to thirty minute walk up, bit steep and rocky underfoot in a couple of places but really worth the effort, the views of the lake on a clear day are spectacular

A climb to a view point which is not for the faint hearted but the reward is a just cause for all the sweat & mud!

Well worth the walk for the amazing views. Didn't take too long from the main road, although a little strenuous.

An easy walk for early morning or late afternoon, not too far. Lovely donkey on the way too. Great views of the lake. What's not to like?

Often arriving in the early afternoon, this little walk is perfect to fit in those few hours. The views from the top are panoramic, and an exciting image of the peaks surrounding Windermere.

Was considering a day trip by train from Carlisle during the summer. I know there are trains to Oxenholme but do you need to get another train/bus to this area close to Orrest Head?

During the Winter months the higher fells usually have a coating of snow. If there was snow this is where you would see (but not necessarily be in it).

The starting point others have mentioned are the quickest tarmac lane/woodland path way. Look at a map to have longer & more enjoyable routes on footpaths throughout.
