Find out more about Leicester's famous son Daniel Lambert and visit a 1950s street scene inspired by Wharf Street that includes the Jolly Angler public house, a grocer and a pawnbroker, with sounds and conversations from the times. Discover more about the story of Leicester at War. Through personal stories find out about the home front and the history of the Regiment, including a recreation of a First World War trench with sound and lighting. Through oral histories, archive film, computer interactives and collections discover the histories of Newarke Houses, the surrounding historic area and contemporary Leicester.

This place brings backs so may fond memories. My own kids love it too now. From an old cobbled street to a wartime trench, there's lots to see and interact with. Worth a visit.

A very well presented museum with a diverse selection of displays. Mock up of WW1 trench is excellent if you have young children to explain it to, and Victorian cobbled street with shops. Pretty gardens and a nice place to take time out.

I had about 1.5 hours to visit this museum which was barely enough for me. This is a very good local museum, rich on the 19th and 20th centuries and on social history and the two world wars. Lots to see and enjoy.

The history of Leicester is presented in a very interesting way in a variety of rooms. We particularly enjoyed learning about the Ugandan Asians. The museum is free - and would be interesting to all ages. We will certainly return.

A real gem of a museum just adjacent to the recently developing historic quarter. Easily accessible from the centre on foot but with a quaint charm and lots of real Leicester gems such as the Daniel Lambert display, and other local figures. Welcoming and informative...More

We visited here specifically to see the Sikh war exhibition which in itself was brilliant...very interesting! However we were taken aback by the fact it was firstly free...and secondly like a tardis! The war exhibitions were fascinating and we easily lost 2 1/2 hours pottering...More
