Lime Street is a really old established Street in Liverpool that offers some of the best architecture to be viewed in our city.
Laid out in the 1790's there were quite a few lime kilns along the street owned by industrialist William Harvey, due to pollution the kilns were removed but the street name remained.
Walking down Lime Street the architecture to be viewed is awesome, St George's Hall, The Empire Theatre, Line Street Railway Station, North Western Hall Hotel Building to name but some of the great buildings along Lime Street, there's also some nice pubs and cafe's here especially in Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station, its a street I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area.

Lime Street is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most famous streets in Liverpool, to most every " Scouser " its referred to lovingly as " Limey " , it is in fact a very historic street, laid out in 1790 ,the street gained its name in relation to a group of lime kilms owed by William Harvey , the pollution and smell from the kilns resulted in the removal of the kilns being removed but the street name remained, a strange fact about the street that although central in the city today it was once on the outskirts if the city which shows the growth of Liverpool as a city over the centuries.
Walking down Lime Street you are struck by the amazing architecture, Liverpool's most stunning structure is found along the street namely St George's Hall and Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station is a magnificent railway station and a gateway to the city, The Empire Theatre is a beautiful and popular theatre building plus you have the modern St John's Shopping Centre, add to this the amazing assortment of pubs, cafe's, bars and restaurants and you have a wonderful street to visit.
Most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

One of Liverpool's most famous streets is Lime Street .
The street was laid out in 1790 and was named in honour of the lime kilns owned by William Harvey ,at the time of construction the street was outside the city limits ,there was an infirmary close by and the doctors complained about the smell so the kilns were removed but the street name remained .
Obviously the most notable structure on Lime Street is the beautiful Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station a stunning Grade II listed building, but there's so much more ,the location is now a great starting point to explore this city ,along the street are all manner of shopping outlets, pubs, bars and restaurants and lots of fast food joints ,its a busy and popular street and most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.
