Old Spitalfields Market represents one of the country's last bastions of consumer diversity and individuality. Home to an old-fashioned community of over 30 independent and large traders and a plethora of chic bohemian businesses, it has secured its place at the forefront of interiors, design, food and the arts - a market that truly embraces the spirit of modern London, an entrepreneurial and cultural melting pot that is ever-changing and developing without ever forgetting its historic past. As Samuel Johnson so eloquently said of London: 'When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." The same is very much true of Old Spitalfields Market.

What is there not to find in the vast renovated space that is Old Spitalfields Market in that strange locality where the concrete banking towers of the City of London almost meet Brick Lane? Clothes, antiques, prints, jewellery yes, but also everything you might need on a single stall to groom that beard (which intrigued me even as a member... More

Our daughter lives in East London and knows this place well. It was absolutely buzzing with activity with stalls selling a variety of goods. Several food stalls offering Street food as well as permanently established cafes and restaurants make a visit here a day long possibility. This is our third Sunday market today and I have found a chair while... More

The first day we went near closing time and wasn't that great but because of reviews we gave it another try and were very pleased. Great for something to eat or also some shopping. great time.

Spent a very enjoyable rainy Sunday afternoon here with the family as it was my son's birthday. As he chose the place to eat we ended up in The Diner, it was as advertised an American style diner with great milkshakes for the kids and a good range of beers for the adults (wines too). the stalls and shops were... Great place to pop into and check out the mix of market stalls - some of which change daily and the shops around the perimeter. Plenty of eating options as well. We visited late on a Friday afternoon and on Sunday morning (and a quick pop back on Monday morning as we were in the area). Lots to look at.... More

I do love this market every time I go. It gets VERY busy, but has a great mixture of stalls, clothes and food that raise interest for many aspects. It is also hosted in a nice place, specially if it's a sunny day.

The Old Spitalfields Market has everything a market should have: delicious street food from all over the world and small stalls with a big selection of different products - not only the same old London merchandise that they sell everywhere but bags, unique clothing and so on. This is definitely a place worth visiting!

This is a cool little market, located 5min walk from Liverpool St station. Being a Saturday it was busy, but not overwhelming. There is a good variety of stalls including clothes, jewellery, maps, food, leather goods etc., and the prices were more reasonable than I was expecting. The food selection is fantastic. Loads of restaurants around the outer rim of... More

Great market to browse around for a few hours. We stopped at a few places for some prosecco and wine. Ended up buying a few unique pieces for our house. Very cool market, worth a visit :-)

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighbourhood Profile
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
