Visited the British museum this week with my wife. I have always wanted to go being a history lover but have never gotten around to it before. Such a great museum with lots to see. Too much actually for a casual visit. There simply isn't enough time to see and read everything. But there are many many stunning, large pieces... More

Maybe a tad biased, but this is one of my favourite museums. Each time I go I always find something interesting. You can sit in the atrium and look at the amazing architecture. I love the books they have in their shop.

This museum has a fantastic collection of artifacts from all over the world, well displayed and curated. Frequently has special exhibitions in the beautiful main hall, big enough to display a reconstructed Viking longboat. In London ? Don't miss it.

I loved the British Museum. It is amazing. An entire day would not suffice to see everything. The collections are well organised and very impressive.

I would be remiss if I did not recommend this world class museum. Among it's notable works you will find no less than the Rosetta stone, which in and of itself commands a huge audience, the egyptian and parthenon collections are phenomenal, a must!

They politely ask for a Five pound donation through a drop box NO PRESSURE you can start with the Rosetta Stone. The explanation of it's history is simple yet comprehensive. This repeats itself through five floors. There is ample handicap access with free wheel chairs and collapsible seats. Several food stations. Too much for a one day visit, you might... More

Didn't get to see all of it the first trip so am going back again..and again. Plan on lots of walking and lots of time. Try to get tickets for the special exhibits online before you travel. We didn't and there were no tickets available the day we went.

I am not the biggest fan of museums but this one transported me into a magical Egyptian and Greek experience. I have visited many free musuems since but none have wowed me close to this one, except the entrance to the natural history museum.

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighbourhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
