Great food. Awesome service. Nice menu but the fish and chips was recommended. Late lunch nice. No crowd at all.

It was a random visit. We just walked by and decided to have a pint of beer. I had some hunger to be honest so I decided to go for the steak. It was Sunday evening about 20:00 and as always I wasn’t lucky enough to have the steak cause it all was sold. So the waiter suggested the burger and I have to admit it was really tasteful. I tasted a cider and as a second drink I decided to have a lager beer. But as I already mentioned, I wasn’t lucky enough and it was Sunday evening, so lager beer was already sold. If I ever visit London again, I’ll go by to try the steak and a lager beer.

A Thursday lunchtime in January doesn't often show a pub at its best. It's not as though there's any shortage of money in this neck of the woods, but it seems not many people fancied a pub-lunch that day, so it was a bit short on atmosphere. The building is quirky with various small to medium dining areas. They probably aren't allowed to do anything useful like install ground floor toilets and the management have used those interior designers whose taste is correct to the point of tedium. Service was polite and efficient, though they must be bored out of their minds. I had a vegan lasagne - a first for me - which was actually quite nice and is apparently a popular introduction. The beer was, of course, perfectly acceptable if totally predictable. I very much doubt I will be in this pub again: it's quite handy for the Zoo, but otherwise a bit out of the way for me. (Fortunately, the week wasn't ruined as I had been in a really good pub in Theydon Bois the day before!)

One of the most disappointing meals I've had in recent times. Had the cote de boeuf for 2. Meat was mostly fat. Yorkshire puddings came out late, burnt and without the caramelised onions as advertised on the menu. When we asked for them towards the end of meal we were just given some separate onions in a pot to put over our burnt, cold, sad looking Yorkshire puddings. Not quite what we meant when we complained about them. I really advise against going here for food.

We arrived in time to see the Grand National and were impressed that despite having only tonic and fizzy water it was so nicely presented in crystal glasses with a couple of slices of lemon and ice and it was a brilliant atmosphere. The only downside was that the loos need a bit of attention - no toilet paper in the ladies and downstairs one in a bit of a state, but I guess it was a very busy day. There was a bbq in the garden and it was a friendly ambience. Would def return.
