Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

Went to the Crisis charity Christmas Carol Concert. This was a very well ushered event by the friendly Cathedral staff and the wheelchair access via the front door was easy and level. Bag checks were in place, but no Covid checks. The acoustics were excellent and the choirs sang well.

NB the wheelchair lift (used for entry via the normal rear entrance) was out of order so do telephone and check before you go.

Spending a good hour or so walking around and I was amazed as how many second looks made as I had missed a little something each time. Stunning stained glass windows which took my breath away . My advice take your time, look around and take it all in. Beautiful Architecture inside and out .

The cathedral is free to enter and worth a 10 minute stroll. Look out for the stained glass window tribute to Shakespeare.

Located adjacent to Borough Market, few minutes walk from London Bridge station. Cathedral is squeezed in amongst south bank buildings and Borough Market but has been restored magnificently. Cathedral has a visitor centre and excellent shop with lots of events and exhibitions programmed throughout the year. This is a haven of peace and tranquillity in an exceptionally busy corner of London. Either as a worshipper or visitor to London well worth a look.

3 friends and I attended Choral Eucharist here. I always enjoy attending church at glorious cathedrals all over Europe. This did not disappoint, the service was moving and timely, the choir music was lovely and the church itself breathtaking. A friend and I returned later on, whilst there was no service, and wandered around to see the various parts of the cathedral (and look for the cat, which we did not find!). For those who love history, especially church history, and want to see a gorgeous cathedral, stop in here.

Honestly we saw a lot of churches on our trip and I have to say Southwark was one I would go back to again and again. The architecture is absolutely amazing and the location is wonderful but it just really seemed to be not only steeped in history but also a place that you would want to be a member of the congregation.

I really enjoyed the visit and we were also lucky enough to meet Hodge the cat and purchase his calendar. Any church with a cat as a highlight gets bonus points. It is definitely worthwhile to visit and if you like architecture it is a must see

Went to see the This is Gratitude Sculptures exhibition and while there took the opportunity to go in to see the Cathedral. Very interesting to look around. Some beautiful stained glass windows. They were practicing for evening song while there so it was lovely to sit and listen. Only disappointment was that the shop wasn’t open ( it was a Sunday afternoon) There was a little mud lark exhibit set up too which was nice to read about and see some of the different finds. I liked seeing all the names of the parishes on the floor tiles by the shop and finding some familiar ones local to home. Overall a very enjoyable visit to the Cathedral.

The Southwark Cathedral lies in a beautiful location on the south bank of the river Thames very close to the London bridge, its history reaching back to the 12th century. It has been rebuilt many times due to fires, disrepair and bombing in the past, however its Medieval styled architecture is absolutely stunning. We were fortunate enough stumble upon a large exhibition of colorful statues called Gratitude to honor the British healthcare service workers, placed on the cathedral grounds. The statues will be auctioned off to benefit NHS charities. Also nearby is the Borough market, where we enjoyed a very delicious lunch.

My friend and I were visiting an exhibition in the courtyard and also had a good look round the church itself. It is by no means large, however the size is deceptive. Well worth a look and a little exploration. They also have a very good gift shop.
