There are two reasons to visit St. Etheldreda's. Sitting in the sanctuary and looking at the stained glass is spectacular. Unbelievably beautiful. The second reason is that Ye Old Mitre pub is down a narrow (4 feet) alley down the block. Two different spiritual experiences...More

Worth a visit to see the oldest Catholic Church in London. Small, cool and quiet. We were the only ones visiting at the time. It was late morning during the week. Just to walk around and contemplate the history that it held was amazing. This...More

To spare others my disappointment of a missed visit, signs posted at the entrance state this church is open 8-5 Monday-Saturday, but only 8-12:30 on Sunday. Sunday Masses are at 9 & 11, weekday Masses are at 1 (as of Nov 2014).

Going from the hustle and bustle of London into St Etheldreda's (RC) is a pure tonic. Hidden between Georgian houses in a gated street Ely Place, off Holborn and behind Hatton Garden is St Ethedreda's. The stained glass is glorious and the tranquillity is quite...More

The thirteenth century chapel ,the second oldest extant building from Edward I ,squeezed between offices ,is all that remains of The Bishop of Ely's Palace. Henry VIII holed up here for five days with Catherine of Aragon whilst squabbling about divorce. Their is a small...More

This Roman Catholic church is hidden away between apartments in the centre of London. You enter the gates to the complex, count a few flats to the left, and suddenly you will see the church entrance. You'll have to go downstairs to enter this relatively...More

This is the most beautiful little Chapel. So conducive to prayer.. My family were very good to come with me knowing how much I have enjoyed a previous visit while in London. I thank my cousin for telling me about it.
