Good area to explore

We love the area of Shad Thames and over the river to Wapping. Canary Wharf is also good to explore.

'Docklands' is not a discrete district of London but refers mainly to the areas east of The City and Bankside which were formerly the 'beating heart' of the world's busiest port, centred on the River Thames downriver from the Tower Bridge. Some of the actual docks have survived either full or in part. St Katharine Docks just east of the... More

The Docklands used to be part of the notorious East End of London. After decades of regeneration it is now a lovely, desirable neighbourhood. Boasting numerous attractions (Canary Wharf, the O2 Center, etc), it has fast become one of the most important areas in the city especially with the financial center in Canary Wharf. It's closeness to the Thames offers... More

I first came here about 30 years ago when it was derelict and have seen the area propsper. Latterly I worked in a bank here and still visit occasionally even though I left banking some years ago. The area is incredibly vibrant and interesting and there is a great contrast between the old and new as until the middle of... More

Built at enormous expense London Docklands is a great missed opportunity to create a really attractive new quarter in London. Many visitors are clearly impressed by the size and quality of materials used in the construction of the area. They fall to appreciate that it could have been so much better with intelligent, imaginative planning. The buildings lack elegance and... More

Canary Wharf and the surrounding areas are well worth a visit. Beautiful buildings. Lots of underground shops. Outdoor ice rink. Green areas with fairy lights. Bars and restaurants.

Very clean and 'business-like' as expected. We only passed through on the DLR on our way to Greenwich but were quite impressed and certainly a different part of London to have a quick look around while switching between tube and DLR.

Once upon a time, Docklands was run down and dismal, but not any more! The transformation in this area of London has been amazing and it is now an area that is desirable and full of really interesting modern architecture and design
